Game publisher Bethesda has belonged to Microsoft for almost a year now. Until now, the manufacturer’s PC titles were offered via its own Bethesda.net launcher. As they have now announced, the launcher will be discontinued. The games such as Fallout 76, RAGE 2, Wolfenstein: Youngblood or DOOM Eternal will henceforth be offered via Steam.
Bethesda.net launcher is retiring
Via Twitter, the publisher informs that its own Bethesda.net launcher for PC games will be discontinued from April 2022. Moving games and its own wallet should be possible from the beginning of April 2022.
“The migration to Steam includes your game library and wallet – and that means you won’t lose any of what’s in your Bethesda.net account,” reads the detailed announcement from Bethesda.
For many games, the game saves are also automatically moved, but some titles require a manual transfer when switching to Steam. For these titles, a Bethesda.net login will then still be required to log in to the game.
Move with no time limit
Bethesda plans to release more details on how the migration process to Steam will proceed in April. There is no time limit for the move, however the Bethesda.net launcher will be retired from May 2022 and will lose its function. From then on, it will no longer be possible to log in to the launcher.
However, all games, saves, purchases and DLCs, as well as the complete move to Steam will remain intact afterwards, as Bethesda emphasizes. However, the move is only possible to Valve’s platform, but not to Microsoft’s own store. It will also not be possible to transfer games to PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
For games that have their own Bethesda.net friends list, these will be united after the migration. These include the titles Fallout 76, DOOM Eternal, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, The Elder Scrolls: Legends, Rage 2 and DEATHLOOP. The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online is not affected by this change and can still be played on the PC as usual.
