CES 2022: Acer unveils new powerful gaming desktops and monitors

Acer today announced an updated edition of its popular Predator Orion 3000 and Predator Orion 5000 gaming desktops at CES 2022. Both PCs are designed specifically for gamers who value performance and ease of upgradeability.

Complementing them, Acer will present a new Predator gaming monitor with OLED technology, the Predator CG48, as well as two IPS displays, Predator X32 and X32 FP, which combine VESA DisplayHDR 1000 with blazing fast refresh rates. The Predator X32 has already won the CES Innovation Award in the Computer Peripherals & Accessories category.

Acer Predator Orion 5000: The high-end gamer

The new edition of the Acer Predator Orion 5000 combines the latest 12th-generation Intel Core i7 processors (Intel H670 chipset) in the maximum configuration with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GP.

The desktop runs Windows 11 and has generous storage with up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM at 4,000 MHz and up to 2 TB of M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSDs. Effective and responsive cooling is provided by the ARGB-equipped Predator FrostBlade 2.0 fan.

The design of these fans ideally optimizes airflow, while sealed ball bearings as well as the curved design of the fan blades reduce any vibrations and noise. The obsidian-colored case made of blackened glass and metal mesh allows you to see inside the gaming beast through a transparent side panel, and the integrated ARGB lighting expertly showcases the individual components.

The side panel itself is made of EMI-compliant glass to protect gamers and their peripherals from potential electromagnetic interference. At the same time, the Predator Orion 5000’s case has been designed to be easily opened for upgrading the unit when needed.

Other features include a Killer E3100G 2.5G Ethernet controller and Intel Wi-Fi 6E for reliable Internet connectivity. DTS:X Ultra allows for a sound experience that turns any pair of headphones or speakers into a high-end 360-degree sound system. Four USB ports (3 x Type-A and 1 x Type-C) and audio connectors are easily accessible installed on the top of the PC, while additional ports on the back can easily hide visible cables.

The Acer Predator Orion 3000 also turns out to be extremely exciting. With up to a 12th generation Intel Core i7 processor and with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, the Orion 3000 offers absolute top performance in the mid-tower segment.

Up to 64GB of 3,200MHz DDR4 memory and 2TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage round out the powerhouse’s features. Additionally, up to 6TB SATA3 HDD storage is also possible. The operating system is Windows 11.

Visually, the Predator Orion 3000 series resembles its big brother: blackened glass, plastic, metal and mesh clad the PC’s high-performance interior, while a transparent EMI-compliant side panel provides a view. Three Predator FrostBlade 2.0 fans optimize airflow and cool components.

For extra flair, the front and rear fans are directly equipped with RGB LEDs, the illumination of which can be controlled via the PredatorSense software. An Intel Killer E2600 Ethernet controller, Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 (Gig+) and Control Center 2.0, as well as DTS:X UItra are also in the mix.

Acer Predator X32 and X32 FP: Exciting gaming monitors

The two new gaming monitors Acer Predator X32 and X32 FP also provide a clear picture. They were designed specifically with the needs of gamers in mind, who place particularly high value on visual brilliance.

Both 32-inch IPS displays impress with lightning-fast refresh rates, the Predator X32 with 160 Hz and the Predator X32 FP even with 165 Hz, UHD resolution, VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification as well as a color accuracy of Delta E<2. Both monitors cover the AdobeRGB color space by 99 percent.  Both also feature a Quantum Dot panel with mini LEDs. Thanks to 576 local dimming zones, this ensures particularly high-contrast images.

Many technologies on board

The Predator X32 also features NVIDIA G-SYNC ULTIMATE, delivering lifelike HDR and ultra-low latency. Players of competitive multiplayer games in particular will also benefit from NVIDIA Reflex, a combination of GPU, G-SYNC and software technologies that measures and reduces system latency in online games. The Predator X32 has already won a CES Innovation Award.

The Predator X32 FP is equipped with four HDMI 2.1 ports, so gamers can enjoy gaming in up to 4K resolution not only on PC, but also on console in up to 120Hz.

With a refresh rate of 165Hz (overclocked) and a response time of 1ms, the 4K monitor is currently a pioneer of its kind. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology and integrated HDR support also improve the picture.

Users can also easily charge their notebooks via the built-in USB Type-C port. For even more flexibility, the Predator X32 FP also features a KVM switch that allows users to connect two different image sources simultaneously, such as a desktop PC via HDMI 2.1 and a notebook via USB Type-C.

Acer Predator CG48 for more screen space

The Acer Predator CG48 offers a large screen for current games on 121.9 cm (48 inches). With its size, the monitor easily serves as a TV replacement as well. 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 138 Hz guarantee crisp and smooth playback, while DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 also make the device compatible for consoles.

Four USB 3.2 ports provide more than enough space for additional peripherals. A USB Type-C port completes the connectivity variety and also allows charging notebooks or other devices thanks to 65W output power. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology and a response time of up to 0.1 ms (G-to-G) ensure one of the fastest 4K gaming experiences ever.

The OLED display of the Predator CG48 uses a contrast ratio of 135,000:1 as well as HDR10 and covers 98 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut. OLED technology allows the monitor to disable individual pixels altogether for true blacks. In addition, no backlight is required, which in turn increases the overall efficiency of the device.

Prices and Availability

The two gaming desktops, the Acer Predator Orion 5000 and Predator Orion 3000, are expected to make their way to retailers in Q2 2022. The MSRP for the Orion 5000 is 2,099 euros, while the Orion 3000 is available starting at 1,099 euros.

Those interested in the gaming monitors, on the other hand, will have to wait a bit longer: Predator X32, Predator X32 FP and Predator CG48 are expected to launch in the third quarter of 2022. The Predator X32 has an MSRP of 1,899 Euros, the X32 FP 1,599 Euros. The top model, Acer Predator CG48, will be offered at a recommended retail price of 2,199 Euros.
