CES 2023: Lenovo ThinkBook 16p wants to conquer upper class

Lenovo presented the latest version of its Lenovo ThinkBook 16p at the CES 2023. At the technology fair in the Nevada desert, the manufacturer pointed out that they now want to place the most modern hardware under the hood of the notebook. This does not only include the latest CPUs from Intel. In terms of graphics, the GeForce RTX 4060 from Nvidia is also said to have been upgraded. This seems to be the best prerequisite for attacking the competition of upper-class notebooks, right?

Lenovo ThinkBook 16p focuses on inner values

Those who were looking forward to optical revolutions on the part of Lenovo at CES 2023 might have been a bit disappointed. At least the manufacturer has only made minimal changes to the design of its notebooks. However, it is the inner values that matter to a certain extent. That’s why many people’s disappointment will vanish when they take a look at the technical specs. After all, the Chinese tech company has upgraded the hardware of its notebooks quite a bit. This is also the case for the Lenovo ThinkBook 16p, which is already in its fourth generation.

The most significant changes of the upper-class notebook concern processor and graphics hardware. Thus, Lenovo surprisingly switches from the AMD CPU, which was still used in the third generation, to the Intel CPU here. To be more precise, the 13th generation of Intel chips will now be used. Those who opt for the top configuration will then get a powerful Intel Core i9. Unfortunately, Lenovo does not reveal the exact processor. The processor in the top configuration is supported by 32 GB DDR5 RAM.

In terms of graphics, you can have an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 installed for an additional charge. The technical specifications of the display are a bit surprising. While the 3.2 K resolution and 165 Hz refresh rate are pleasingly good, the 430 nits brightness is a deterioration compared to the predecessor. The 16-inch display in the third generation still offered up to 500 nits. Overall, Lenovo offers two different displays. Those who want to save a bit of money can also go for the alternative with 2.5 K, 60 Hz and 400 nits.

Other highlights from CES 2023:

Lenovo ThinkBook 16p offers connectivity for workday

Weighing just under 2 kg, the notebook is likely to be used primarily in the business sector. Therefore, it also offers a pleasingly large number of ports. For example, 2x USB-C are included. Thanks to the new Intel CPU, one of them even offers Thunderbolt 4. Besides HDMI 2.1 and a 3.5 mm jack, it also offers 2x USB-A. The installed battery is supposed to provide good endurance in everyday use. It is supposed to have a battery capacity of 80 Wh. Lenovo does not specify the exact runtime that is supposed to be possible.

Price and availability

The Lenovo ThinkBook 16p should be a real savior for everyday work. Those who are interested in the upper-class laptop will have to be patient until June 2023. The Chinese want to launch the latest model then. The manufacturer will charge an MSRP of 1,399 Euros for the basic configuration.
