Cloud Print: Google Discontinues Service at the End of 2020

Google will discontinue the Cloud Print service at the end of 2020. Users are asked to look for alternatives in good time. Concrete reasons for the discontinuation of the service were not mentioned.

Cloud Print has been in a permanent beta phase for around ten years. The service makes it possible to access any printer in the same cloud network from any device, without having to install printer software or the like on the device in question. Printing could also be done from smartphones and tablets. Now Google seems to have come to the conclusion that the project was not successful enough.

In its own blog, Google refers to solutions of the installed operating system as a possible alternative to the cloud print service. Possibly the emergence of these operating system solutions is the reason for the end of the service – it may simply be more convenient to use these already integrated solutions. Google itself has also introduced competition to its program – the operating system Chrome OS contains a very similar function, which Cloud Print basically makes it superfluous.

If you have used Cloud Print up to now, you should look for such an alternative as soon as possible, because the service will be finally discontinued at the end of 2020. The time remaining until then can be seen as the end of the project.
