Warner Bros. is currently attracting attention with an unusual marketing campaign for the upcoming Hollywood flick Reminiscence starring Hugh Jackman. They’ve teamed up with U.S. startup D-ID, which is usually dedicated to protecting people from facial recognition.

As the news website Protocol reports, D-ID has found that the same technique can be used to improve deepfakes. Deefakes are videos in which someone’s face is placed on another person’s body.

The marketing website for the film can be used to simply upload any photo, which is then cut into the film trailer using the technology. After the upload, a few questions about the uploaded image must be answered – including who the person depicted is and how long ago the photo was taken – and the image comes to life. The personalized video can then be easily downloaded in MP4 format.

Prior to the film marketing campaign, the D-ID company drew attention to itself through a cooperation with MyHeritage which allowed videos to be created on photos of deceased relatives, thus “bringing them back to life.”

Reminiscence tells the story of Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman), a private investigator of the mind who helps his clients access lost memories. The film opens in theaters on August 26.
