Back in June, Fossil confirmed that we could expect a new premium smartwatch generation based on Wear OS 3.0 in the fall. Now, the company has released an official teaser of the Fossil Gen 6, which promises a much faster pace.
What to expect with the Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch
Samsung isn’t the only company preparing to launch its next-generation smartwatch with the Galaxy Watch 4. Watchmaker Fossil is also announcing the launch of the company’s latest and most advanced smartwatch, the Gen 6, which is expected to be unveiled “soon.”
In addition to even better performance and increased battery life, the Fossil Gen 6 is said to feature more advanced chips and an optional LTE modem. In terms of the operating system, Fossil wants to use the latest version of Google’s wearable operating system to deliver the “best possible Wear OS smartwatch”. However, they did not reveal what exactly that means. However, it should already be confirmed that the Gen 6 will be based on Wear OS 3.0.
While concrete details are still scarce, the timing could play into the manufacturer’s hands: A release in fall 2021 would allow Fossil to install the Snapdragon Wear 5100, which has not been officially announced yet.
According to rumors, however, Fossil might once again rely on the older Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC with the Gen 6 and only update to Wear OS 3.0 with the successor generation next year.
Thus, it remains to be seen how good the features of Fossil’s “most advanced smartwatch” actually are. You can already register for more information on the manufacturer’s homepage, which indicates an announcement soon.
