Garmin: Forerunner 165 is a running watch for the masses

If you’re looking for a running watch for true professionals, you can’t go past Garmin. But of course, all this comes at a price. The sports watch expert has now announced a new model that is also suitable for beginners. The Garmin Forerunner 165 should offer good features at a fair price.

Even if a glance outside doesn’t suggest it yet, spring is slowly but surely just around the corner. This might make some people forget about their inner weaker self and enjoy the beautiful weather on a long run. For many people, a suitable running watch is now almost as important as a decent pair of running shoes. If you don’t want to make any compromises here, opt for a Garmin model. However, despite their great technical features, these sports watches have a huge catch – they are very expensive.

This is now set to change. With the Garmin Forerunner 165, the popular manufacturer wants to bring a new model onto the market, which should be significantly cheaper than the rest of the lineup. At first glance, however, you cannot tell that the tracker is a low-budget model. On the contrary, the look is very similar to its siblings from the Forerunner series, some of which are considerably more expensive. An AMOLED screen is also at the heart of this model. This measures 1.2 inches and is therefore a little smaller than the other Forerunner models. You will probably also have to accept a slight reduction in battery life.

The watch should be able to last up to eleven days – at least in smartwatch mode. When used in Alway-on mode, it is probably four days. This should be enough for beginners, as should the duration of motion recording. Activities that require the use of the GPS module should be able to be tracked for just under 19 hours. While the hardware is somewhat slimmed down, the software appears to be the same as the manufacturer’s more expensive watches. You can also have your heart rate tracked here, plan your running training with the help of a training advisor and so on. A practical sleep analysis is also on board.

Price and availability

All in all, the Garmin Forerunner 165 sounds like the perfect sports watch for all those who want to take advantage of Garmin’s sports expertise but don’t want to pay a fortune for it. As a beginner in “running”, you should hardly notice anything of the weaker hardware. There are two different versions of the sporty watch. One comes with local music storage and has a price tag of 329.99 euros. If you can do without it, you can choose the model without music storage. This costs 279.99 euros.
