The search engine giant’s first foldable smartphone has been the subject of numerous rumors since last year. The Google Pixel Fold release is not far away: On May 10, the Galaxy Z Fold4 competitor is to be officially unveiled.

Google Pixel Fold release: unveiling confirmed on May 10

Via Twitter, Google officially announced the unveiling of its first foldable smartphone. With the text “May the Fold be with you”, the company teased the Google Pixel Fold release. Already on May 10, the highly anticipated smartphone will be officially unveiled during Google I/O. At the same time, we can also expect the presentation of the Google Pixel tablet.

Official details about the Google Pixel Fold are still missing. However, leaks from the past few days indicate that the foldable smartphone is shorter but wider than its direct competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4.

However, Google does not seem to want to undercut the competitor in terms of price:What does the Google Pixel Fold cost? Officially, that is just as unknown as the final specs. However, YouTuber FrontPageTech revealed all details in a video.

We will only officially find out if the specs are correct on May 10. However, the video mentions a starting price of $1,799. Thus, the Google Pixel Fold is unlikely to be a price-performance hit.

Furthermore, the YouTuber mentions in his video that the Google Pixel Fold will be released in two variants, both of which will feature the Tensor G2 chip already known from the Pixel 7 Pro (our review), as well as 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM. Only the internal storage is supposed to offer a choice of 256 GB or 512 GB.

The OLED cover display is supposed to be 5.8-inches large according to the company, with Full HD+ resolution in 2,092 x 1,080 pixels. A refresh rate of 120 Hz is promised. On the inside, there is an OLED panel with a resolution of 2,208 x 1,840 pixels in 6:5 format, also with 120 Hz.

As always, Google wants to score especially with the camera setup. The foldable is supposed to have a main camera on the back with a 1/2-inch sensor that has a resolution of 48 megapixels. In addition, there is an ultra-wide-angle camera and a periscope telephoto lens with 20x super-res zoom.
