4 years of security updates for Samsung Galaxy devices

Until last August, Samsung had held back with statements about how long devices would be supplied with updates to new Android versions. All future devices are guaranteed to receive three Android updates. Now the company goes further and guarantees security updates for Galaxy devices for 4 years.

Security updates for 4 years

Samsung’s security updates will not only get new products from the company, but also Galaxy products that have been on the market since 2019. Samsung is also including the Z, Note, A, S, Tab and XCover series with the updates. Future updates are expected to be distributed on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Google outperformed

With the promise of security updates for a whole four years, Samsung even surpasses Google. Google issues security updates for three years on a monthly basis. Samsung announces which of the devices will be supplied with updates monthly and which quarterly on its support page. The security vulnerabilities are also listed there. Samsung also points out that there are differences in the availability of the updates and that this differs from device to device. Included for the security updates are tablets and smartphones of the Galaxy Fold series, Galaxy M series, Galaxy S models, Galaxy XCover models, Galaxy A series and the Galaxy Tab models. Samsung reserves the right to make possible changes to the list and wants to check them periodically.
