Pixel 7 Pro camera climbs to top spot in DxOMark test

Google has recently launched two hot smartphones with the Pixel 7 series, which can also convince technically besides a compelling price-performance ratio. The Pixel 7 Pro camera secures the top spot within the best list in the test by the experts from DxOMark and positions itself just ahead of the iPhone 14 Pro.

Pixel 7 Pro camera: 1st place in test

With a score of 147 points, the Pixel 7 Pro camera of Google’s new flagship smartphone slides into first place within DxOMark’s best list – tied with the Honor Magic4 Ultimate.

The iPhone 14 Pro (our review) and the Pro Max landed just behind in the camera test, with 146 points, in 3rd place. The new Google smartphone distanced the competition from Apple, in some cases significantly, especially in the pure photo and zoom value. The Pixel 7 Pro secured 148 out of 150 possible points for photos.

iPhone makes the best videos: However, the current iPhone model has according to the test noticeably ahead in terms of bokeh and video capabilities. iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max once again – unsurprisingly – mark the spearhead in the video area and secure 149 out of 150 possible points.

However, Google’s device clearly scores again in ultra-wide-angle and telephoto zoom recordings. Thus, the testers attest the Pixel 7 Pro camera an equally convincing performance across all application areas and features.

Especially the 48-megapixel telephoto camera of the Pixel 7 Pro delivers visibly more details at higher zoom levels than its Apple counterpart. The performance of the zoom camera has also been noticeably improved compared to the Pixel 6 Pro (our review).

After all, Google advertises its new model with a 30x super-resolution zoom that can also depict additional details in digital magnification.

Pixel 7 Pro as a convincing all-rounder

DxOMark also took a close look at the Pixel 7 Pro’s display. In the end, it is enough for second place on the podium with 146 points. Only the iPhone 14 Pro Max is still ahead of Google with 149 points.

However, the leap compared to the predecessor is interesting once again, because the Pixel 6 Pro only scored 130 points in the display category. Thus, the new version seems to have changed a lot for the better. Besides the much higher brightness, which now reaches a maximum of 1,500 nits in the peak.

In the selfie camera category, Google’s model wins the bronze medal (142 points). Only the Huawei P50 Pro (144 points) and the iPhone 14 Pro (145 points) enable better self-portraits.

If you put all these scores in relation to the price, which has not changed this year at 899 Euros, a convincing price-performance ratio emerges here. After all, the iPhone 14 Pro costs 400 Euros more.
