Everything indicates that Google apparently wants to discontinue its app for Android Auto. A corresponding service will probably be completely taken over by Google Assistant in the future.
Users criticize inactivity
But what leads insiders to believe that Google will soon discontinue or streamline its service? One clear reason is probably the fact that the app for Android Auto no longer works for some smartphone users. This is a finding of the XDA Developers forum, which is popular among Android users. Following the launch of the app, the smartphone is said to have given them a notice that the smart companion in the car should only be available on the car display itself. All functions that were previously provided by the app itself now seem to be possible only with Google Assistant.
Google announced a replacement
The U.S. company has already announced in 2019 that Android car in the near future can no longer be controlled via the smartphone app. The goal, it said, is to make only voice control possible while driving. It is therefore surprising that the app was still available at all for so long. The idea behind it certainly has something to do with driver safety, if nothing else. After all, voice control is much less distracting than actual typing on the smartphone.
