With the triumph of smartphones, HTC quickly established itself as one of the leading manufacturers. The company was able to celebrate great successes with the Desire series in particular. It is therefore all the more surprising that the company could not really come up with successful devices in the last few years. This is now to change. With the HTC Desire 22 Pro, the manufacturer wants to tie in with former successes. The company also wants to use its expertise from the development of VR headsets like the HTC Vive Pro 2 or the HTC Vive Cosmos Elite.
Current display technology
Let’s start with the display has. Here, HTC promises an anything but small 6.6-inch display on the Desire 22. This comes with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,412 pixels and offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Don’t want to watch Netflix, Disney+ and the like on a classic smartphone screen? No problem! On top of that, HTC plans a link to the VR goggles HTC VIVE Flow. The manufacturer even goes so far as to say that the smartphone has been customized for the VR glasses. For example, you should be able to enjoy the common streaming services on the portable VR glasses – all wirelessly. The battery of the glasses is to be able to charge via reverse charging on the smartphone itself.
No flagship processor
The fact that we are not in the field of premium devices here becomes clear from the installed processor. HTC relies on the Snapdragon 695 5G from Qualcomm. Although it supports 5G, it does not come close to the power of the current flagship in the form of the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. The chip is supported by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage. However, in view of a battery with a capacity of 4,520 mAh, it is not that unwise to rely on a mid-range processor.
Finally, this does not offer top performance, but it makes the device energy-efficient, which should translate into a long battery life. Once the battery is empty, the Desire 22 Pro is supposed to have the option of wireless charging in addition to a fast charging function. The triple camera on the back consists of a 64-megapixel main camera (f/1.79), the 13-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.4) and the 5-megapixel camera with depth detection. The camera technology is completed by a front camera with 32 megapixel resolution.
Large yet handy
With a 6.6-inch display diagonal, the HTC Desire 22 Pro is anything but small. Nevertheless, HTC talks about the fact that you should be able to hold it comfortably in your hands. The relatively low weight of just under 205 grams is supposed to ensure that. The manufacturer does not only want a low weight, but also robustness. Accordingly, the smartphone not only has IP67 water and dust protection. On top of that, the display is made of Gorilla Glass. Unlocking is conveniently done with the thumb via the power button.
Prices and availability
When the HTC Desire 22 Pro will come to Germany is still unknown. Unfortunately, we also do not know at what price the smartphone with customized VR support will launch. However, it is already good to know that HTC will also offer its latest creation in this country. More information about the HTC Desire 22 Pro can be found on the official website.
