Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2: In-ears promise rich sound and 30 h runtime

The professional in-ear model from 2020 gets a successor. On June 29, the new TWS in-ear headphones Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 were officially unveiled. Highlights include a battery life of up to 30 hours, as well as high-end sound in the wide audio range between 14 Hz and 48 kHz.

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 want to convince sonically

The new Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 mark the flagship of the Chinese manufacturer in the in-ear sector. Especially in terms of sound, the TWS earbuds promise a lot. Huawei talks about an “Ultra-hearing True Sound Dual Driver System” that intelligently tunes the sound. This, in turn, is supposed to noticeably benefit the sound quality.

The FreeBuds Pro 2 were developed in cooperation with Devialet. Together they want to impress even the most demanding music lovers with a special audio experience.

To achieve this, the in-ear headphones reproduce a comparatively wide audio range between 14 Hz and 48 kHz and are said to be able to coherently bring across bright and precise highs as well as mid and low frequencies with powerful bass.

The sound is also personalized using Triple Adaptive EQ technology, which automatically adjusts playback to the anatomy of your ear canal, the position of the Earbuds in your ear, and the volume level.

“The industry’s best noise cancellation”

The fact that Huawei spares no superlatives when announcing the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 is evident across the board. The company promises nothing less than “the best noise cancellation in the industry” and wants to put the fear of God into Sony. The Japanese recently followed up with the Linkbuds S (our review), a strong in-ear headphone.

Huawei, on the other hand, talks about innovative active noise cancellation, with its proprietary Triple-Mic Hybrid ANC system increasing ANC depth by 15 percent compared to the previous model and “setting new industry standards”.

At the same time, the intelligent automatic noise cancellation system detects ambient noise with high accuracy and independently selects the appropriate noise cancellation mode to block out background noise and ensure optimal sound quality. In other words, hybrid ANC. We already know this. Tests will have to prove how good the Huawei version ultimately turns out.

However, phone calls are also said to benefit from the improved ANC, enabling crystal-clear calls. This is made possible by an ANC system with three microphones and bone sensor in combination with an innovative algorithm.

Freebuds Pro 2 info: Multi-point and 30 hours of battery life

The FreeBuds Pro 2 can also now be connected to two devices at the same time via Bluetooth (Multi-Point). This works with various systems such as smartphones, tablets, PCs and smartwatches and across all major operating systems such as Android, iOS and Windows.

It gets interesting when you own other devices from Huawei. This is where the “Super Device” feature comes into play. The headphones are automatically detected by intelligent Super Device screens and can be connected in record time by simply dragging and dropping. Clear and innovative control is provided by the user-friendly Audio Connection Center in the AI Life app, which allows uncomplicated switching between the ten most recently connected devices.

The battery life of the small true-wireless in-ear headphones is decent. If you turn off the ANC, up to 30 hours of runtime are possible (including charging, of course). The headphones themselves account for 6.5 hours. However, a maximum of 18 hours is possible with the ANC function enabled, or up to four hours for the earbuds alone. These are good, but not very outstanding rates.

The charging case also supports reverse wireless charging via smartphones or tablets. In addition, the in-ears themselves are protected against splashing water according to IP54.

Price and Availability

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 will be available in Silver Frost, Ceramic White and Silver Blue in stores, as well as at the Huawei Store, starting June 29, 2022. The manufacturer’s RRP is 199 Euros and thus on par with the already mentioned Linkbuds S from Sony.
