Hyundai presents details of the IONIQ 6

A few weeks ago, we already reported that Hyundai had presented the latest trick in its all-electric car series with its IONIQ 6. However, the manufacturer was still very cautious with details. This has now changed. The carmaker, headquartered in South Korea, is revealing promising data. Especially in terms of range, the electric car seems to outshine many competitors.

Range of up to 610 km

The range of the IONIQ 6 has certainly caused great astonishment. According to the manufacturer, the electric car should be able to travel up to 610 km with its 77.4 kWh battery. The large battery is optionally available with rear-wheel drive or more powerful all-wheel drive. The dual motor version is the most powerful and is said to score with an output of 239 kW and 605 Nm of torque. Thanks to the powerful drive, the car is then said to be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 within 5.1 seconds in the top trim. Alternatively, it should also be possible to opt for a smaller battery with a capacity of 53 kWh for the IONIQ 6.

However, Hyundai wants to offer this version exclusively with a rear-wheel drive. Once the battery is empty, astonishment continues. Thus, one should be able to charge the small battery from 10 to 80 percent within just 18 minutes. This is made possible by charging at a power of 350 kW. The high range is not only supposed to come from the battery capacity. Hyundai is also particularly proud of the aerodynamic design it has given the IONIQ 6. This not only looks cool, but is also intended to ensure the lowest possible air resistance.

Tailored look in the interior

We also really like the design in the interior. So you should be able to customize the ambient lighting here according to your own preferences. A total of 64 colors are available to choose from. The so-called Speed Sync mode sounds particularly cool.

This adjusts the interior lighting to the speed you’re driving the vehicle. But it’s not just the look that’s supposed to be able to adapt to speed. On top of that, the IONIQ 6 should be able to produce driving sounds that adapt to the current driving style.

Many customization options for the driver

The central control unit of the electric car is a 12-inch display in the driver’s cockpit. Here, not only the usual settings can be made. On top of that, it should be possible to regulate detailed options for driving behavior. In addition to the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal, the engine power and steering force can also be adjusted here.

In addition, a digital cockpit ensures that you always have everything in view. On top of that, there are practical driving and safety assistants such as a lane change assistant and emergency braking assistant that can detect cyclists and pedestrians. Depending on the features, the assistants can then be expanded.

First Hyundai with over-the-air updates

Rear-seat passengers have plenty of options for charging their mobile devices with a total of four USB-C ports and one USB-A port. Unlike the IONIQ 5 electric SUV, for example, the IONIQ 6 is expected to become the first Hyundai to support over-the-air updates. A popular feature of the IONIQ 5 is also expected to make a return in the IONIQ 6. Namely, the vehicle-to-load function. Here, the vehicle offers two sockets to which you can connect your electrical devices. For camping trips, this is a real boon.

Price is unknown

This all sounds very good, what Hyundai has announced about its upcoming 4.85 m long and 1.88 m wide IONIQ 6. However, probably the most exciting information is still missing – the price. The South Koreans have not yet commented on this. If you already know that you are going to buy the new IONIQ 6, you can already make a request on Hyundai’s website.
