IFA 2022 has some exciting technology highlights in store. In addition to household electronics, consumer electronics also seem to play a major role again this year. At the trade show, which starts today in Berlin, you can not only admire a gigantic LG OLED TV with a 97-inch screen diagonal. There is also something for the ears. For example, audiophiles get the best fodder for their vinyl love with the Audio-Technica AT-ART20 pickup.
Top of the line MC cartridge
The Audio-Technica AT-ART20 promises its listeners a high-resolution sound, which is to be reflected in particular in a realistic and dynamic sound image. This is made possible, among other things, the revised contact pins. These are gold-plated and, according to the manufacturer, 30 times thicker than standard models, which is supposed to lead to reduced contact resistance. In addition to the gold-plated components, Audio-Technica also relies on other high-quality materials. Thus, the base forms aluminum, and the case, in turn, is made of titanium and elastomer.
Excellent analog audio reproduction
The promise that the Audio-Technica AT-ART20 offers outstanding analog sound comes, of course, from the manufacturer itself. A look at the technical details, however, brings to light that, at least in theory, the best conditions for this have been created. On the one hand, there is the newly developed magnetic circuit. According to the HiFi experts, this is based on the design of the well-known AT-ART9XI. However, one has enlarged the yoke at the front by 0.6 mm. This is to lead to an improved flux density. The increased efficiency in turn should contribute to the realistic sound image.
Audio-Technica has also revised the needle and needle carrier in its MC cartridge. Thus, the Audio-Technica AT-ART20 is clearly oriented to the in-house flagship, the AT-ART1000. Thus, the high-quality diamond needle sits in a titanium mount, which should not only provide a firm grip with the lowest possible weight. On top of that, better trebles are supposed to be possible here. The line-contact needle and the needle carrier itself are made of solid boron. The low abrasion that results from this not only protects the needle, but also the records of the user.
Price and Availability
The Audio-Technica AT-ART20 is undoubtedly not a product for the masses. Instead, the pickup is aimed quite specifically at passionate vinyl fans with suitable speakers. The price is correspondingly high. With an MSRP of 3,199.00 Euros, it is anything but a bargain.
