Lenovo Legion Slim 7i and Slim 7: Slim and powerful gaming notebooks revealed

With the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i and Slim 7, as well as the normal models without the Slim name suffix, the manufacturer has introduced powerful and slim 16-inch gaming notebooks that should also last a long time thanks to their large batteries.

For the most demanding gamers, the new Lenovo Legion Slim 7i and Slim 7 gaming notebooks have a lot to offer. The i suffix stands, as always with Lenovo, for the equipment with a CPU from Intel. You can choose between an Intel Core i5-12500H, Core i7-12700H or even a Core i9-12900HK.

The AMD counterpart offers a choice between an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, Ryzen 7 6800H or a Ryzen 5 6600H. The graphics solution also differs depending on the selected processor. Thus, the Slim 7 relies on a Radeon RX6800S or a Radeon RX6600S, the Intel model can choose between the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070, RTX 3060 or RTX 3050 Ti.

Furthermore, the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i even has an optional display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels including a 165 Hz refresh rate, which gives a peak brightness of 1,250 nits in HDR mode thanks to mini-LED backlighting. This variant is missing in the AMD model. Here, you can choose between a frame rate of 165 Hz and 240 Hz along with 500 nits or a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and 165 Hz.

Slim and powerful

With a thickness of 16.9 mm, the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i and Slim 7 are equally slim. However, Lenovo has not made any statements about the cooling of the high-end components so far. But it does about the battery. Depending on the model, it has a capacity of 71 watt hours or 99.99 Wh and should last for a long time in everyday use.

The Legion laptops are also very diverse in terms of ports. Three USB-A ports, one HDMI 2.1 port, one SD card reader and one 3.5 mm audio port are available. In addition, there are two USB Type-C ports, at least one of which also supports Thunderbolt in the Intel model.

The Lenovo Legion 7i and 7 models are about three centimeters lower and higher, as well as minimally wider, and weigh a bit more at around 2.5 kg than the slim models at 2.05 kg. There are fewer CPU options available here.

You have the choice between the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX and AMD Ryzen 7 6800H. or the Intel Core i9-12900HX and Intel Core i7-12800HX. Due to the increased space, a stronger graphics card can also be installed.

Here, the AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT with 12 GB GDDR6 or the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU with 16 GB GDDR6 and 175 W TGP are offered in the top model. There is a maximum of 32 GB DDR5-4800 for AMD and 32 GB DDR5-5600 for Intel in the RAM.

In terms of ports, a second Thunderbolt 4 port is available on the Lenovo Legion 7i. There is also an RJ45 network port on both models, as well as an additional USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with DisplayPort 1.4 and 135 W USB PD. The battery is also always 99.99 Wh. The same options are available for the displays as in the Slim variants.

Prices and availability

The Lenovo Legion Slim 7i and Slim 7, as well as 7i and 7 gaming laptops are all slated to be available in July 2022. Pricing starts at an MSRP of $1,899 for the Slim 7 and $1,999 for the Slim 7i. The larger models start at 2,599 Euros (Lenovo Legion 7) and 2,999 Euros (Lenovo Legion 7i).
