After Lenovo already presented the X1 business notebook of the 2022 model series at CES 2022, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 G3, which is also offered as a Yoga convertible, was announced. The X13 comes with an Intel or AMD CPU, whereby AMD even offers USB4 and a Ryzen 6000.
Lenovo ThinkPad X13 G3 in detail
With the classic clamshell subnotebook Lenovo ThinkPad X13 G3, the manufacturer offers the most compact business notebook in its own portfolio to date – with the exception of the X1 series and the ARM variant ThinkPad X13s, of course.
The X13 Gen 2 measures 305.8 mm x 217.56 mm x 18.10 mm and weighs just 1.19 kg. The X13 Yoga Gen 3 convertible model, on the other hand, is even smaller at 305 mm x 214.15 mm x 15.94 mm and weighs the same.
The Yoga Gen 3 models are offered with Intel Core i7 processors of the 12th generation, while the normal X13 offers a choice between Intel and AMD. The latter houses an AMD Ryzen Pro 6000 chip – both including integrated graphics acceleration. Up to 32 GB of RAM and a maximum of 2 TB of PCIe SSD storage are also offered.
13.3-inch display and chunky battery life
While the basic design hasn’t changed much from the previous model series, there are some technical innovations lurking in the G3 lineup. The X13 Yoga G3 offers a 13.3-inch WQXGA display with 400 nits brightness and 500 nits for HDR content, optionally with a Low Blue Light filter.
Lenovo also relies on a display with the same specifications for the normal ThinkPad X13 G3, but it is optionally offered with a touch function.
The Yoga also has a 57 watt-hour battery that is supposed to last for 13.6 hours. The normal X13, on the other hand, is offered with 41 Wh or 54.7 Wh, and there is no information about the runtime in this case.
Other features include a fingerprint sensor in the power button, a Full HD webcam including IR scanner and privacy shutter, Dolby Audio speakers, Bluetooth 5.2, as well as support for Wi-Fi 6E, 4G LTE and optionally 5G sub6 via eSIM.
It gets interesting with the port selection. While the mechanical docking port on the side is omitted like in all 2022 models, the Intel model has two Thunderbolt 4 ports. The AMD counterparts on the other hand have a USB4-C port as well as USB-C 3.2. Thanks to USB4, the AMD notebook should finally be able to handle Thunderbolt docks. HDMI 2.0b, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, 3.5 mm jack and a SIM slot are shared by all models.
Prices and availability
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 G3 is expected to be available in stores from June 2022 in both Intel and AMD variants. Prices start at $1,119 for AMD, and from $1,179 for the Intel variants, respectively.
