MediaMarkt and Saturn: E-cars soon available in the electrical stores?

Would you like a new electric car to go with your smart TV? MediaMarkt and Saturn are apparently planning a new model for their stores throughout Germany that includes offering e-cars along with matching packages.

MediaMarkt and Saturn: E-cars and new ideas

Ceconomy CEO Karsten Wildberger apparently has big plans for the MediaMarkt and Saturn consumer electronics stores, according to an interview with WirtschaftsWoche. Among other things, he plans to cut costs and introduce entirely new store formats.

One of these involves cooperation with manufacturers of electric cars. Here, e-cars are apparently to be offered in the stores of MediaMarkt and Saturn. In addition, there are plans to offer suitable packages, for example for the purchase of electricity for the vehicles.

It is not yet clear exactly what the new concept will look like. However, the two consumer electronics stores are not the first to come up with this idea. Euronics, for example, already offers a similar cooperation with Chinese manufacturer Aiways, through which, among other things, the all-electric Aiways U5 is offered in the stores.

New concepts for MediaMarkt and Saturn

Furthermore, Wildberger plans to introduce repair subscriptions in the stores. Here, customers should be able to simply bring damaged devices into the store for repair and – with an active subscription – not have to pay anything further for the repair.

A purchase service for smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices is also being planned. In addition to the stores with a large area, the company is also considering offering smaller stores in the future, which will be called Express and Smart.

Here, customers will be able to pick up online orders and make use of repair services. These stores are to be located primarily in city centers, with the Smart stores focusing on a smaller “carefully selected assortment”.

Already after Easter, the first stores of the new format are to start in southern Germany, it is further said, without going into concrete detail. Basically one wants to position oneself more flexibly and offer more possibilities, so Wildberger. So we can look forward with interest.
