MG3 Hybrid to be launched as a small car with hybrid drive in Q2

Car manufacturer MG Motor has traveled to the 2024 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland with an exciting new product. It goes by the name of MG3 Hybrid and aims to compete with the Opel Corsa or VW Polo as a new small hybrid car. The market launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2024.

Sporty and elegant: the MG3 Hybrid in detail

The new MG3 Hybrid is the second generation of the small car, which will be available as a hybrid from now on following its debut in 2011. After the MG4 was intended to be a direct competitor to the VW ID.3 and the like, the new MG3 is much more compact.

The compact car has a modern and sporty look, including a beefy front end with LED headlights and alloy wheels. The MG3 Hybrid has five doors and comes with a hatchback. The vehicle is available in six different paint finishes: Pebble Black, Dover White, Cosmic Silver, Diamond Red, Hampstead Grey and Como Blue.

Compared to the first edition, the new model has grown in length to 4.11 meters and the wheelbase has also increased by 50 millimeters to 2.57 meters, which should provide more legroom in the rear seat.

New hybrid drive

The powertrain that gives the MG3 Hybrid its name is celebrating its premiere. Here, MG Motor combines a 75 kW 1.5-liter petrol engine with a 100 kW electric motor. According to the manufacturer, the small car can thus deliver a combined output of 143 kW or 194 hp from the front-wheel drive. This makes top speeds of up to 170 km/h possible.

In purely electric mode, a 1.83 kWh battery provides the necessary energy, although the car manufacturer does not provide any details about the range. However, the MG3 Hybrid is said to be extremely efficient and accelerate well.

According to the press release, it has the “fastest acceleration in the hybrid B segment” in its own portfolio. The sprint from standstill to 100 km/h takes 8.0 seconds. The compact car is said to consume just 4.4 liters and 100g/km of CO2 per 100 kilometers.

The hybrid car is powered by a three-speed automatic transmission that offers five different driving modes. There are also three additional operating modes: Eco, Standard and Sport. Thanks to the agile setup, the new MG3 is primarily intended to provide driving pleasure.

Modern equipment

The MG3 Hybrid is available for the European market in three equipment lines (Standard, Comfort and Luxury), which focus on a modern look and an elegant interior. These include, for example, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with navigation system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Air conditioning, six loudspeakers and LED headlights, as well as front and rear parking sensors are also included as standard. Higher model variants include a keyless system, heated front seats and steering wheel and much more.

MG Motor also offers a warranty of seven years or 150,000 kilometers on all models.

The MG3 Hybrid is due to be launched in Europe in the second quarter of 2024. Official prices have not yet been announced, but it is expected to start at less than 25,000 euros. Concrete details are expected shortly.
