Microsoft Surface Pro 10 and Laptop 6: Launch Event Announced

Microsoft is preparing the successors to the Surface Pro 9 and Surface Laptop 5 devices released in 2022, which are particularly popular with business customers. Microsoft Surface Pro 10 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 are to be unveiled at a launch event in around two weeks’ time.

Microsoft Surface Pro 10: Launch event teased

Microsoft has published a teaser website announcing a digital event for March 21, 2024 at 06:00 German time. The event will herald a “New Era of Work” and reveal news about a scalable AI environment with Microsoft Copliot, Windows and Surface devices.

Although there is no explicit mention of Microsoft Surface Pro 10 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 6, both devices were already discovered in Geekbench leaks in February 2024 and are therefore likely to be announced shortly.

It is also likely that Microsoft will present its own AI chatbot called “AI Explorer” at the event, which is set to launch the major AI offensive of Windows 11. However, its full scope is not expected until the fall, according to WindowsCentral.

AI Explorer is intended to enable Windows 11 devices to be searched using artificial intelligence and allow interactions in the style of ChatGPT. Microsoft already equips modern notebooks with a dedicated co-pilot button for this purpose.

Surface event on March 21, 2024

Of course, the Surface event on March 21, 2024 will also focus on new devices. The US magazines Windows Central and The Verge report that both the Microsoft Surface Pro 10 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 will be presented to the public at the event.

However, this will apparently initially only be available in the business customer version, where the technical innovations will be limited. In terms of design, little is said to have changed compared to the current generation, but there are new processors:

After both devices can already be found in February in entries of the benchmark tool Geekbench under the Microsoft-typical codenames OEMML and OEMHT, Microsoft will equip the devices with the new Meteor Lake chips Intel Core Ultra 5 135U (Surface Pro 10) or the faster Intel Core Ultra 5 135H in the Surface Laptop 6

Major improvements for the Surface consumer variants

However, the consumer versions of the Microsoft Surface Pro 10 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 promise to be much more interesting, at least if the sources mentioned above are to be believed. Following the launch of the Intel variants in April, these are set to follow in the summer, probably in June 2024, and will be based on ARM chips.

Specifically, there is talk of using the brand new Snapdragon X Elite from Qualcomm, which will be presented at Computex 2024 at the beginning of June. In the previous model series, Microsoft also delivered an ARM variant based on the Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 alongside an Intel model of the Surface Pro 9 – so that would also fit.

The leaks also suggest that the new 2-in-1 convertible and the new notebook will be given a major display upgrade and will feature OLED panels with narrower screen edges.

Windows Central also reports a far-reaching design upgrade for the Surface Laptop 6, which is said to come with rounded corners, a new haptic touchpad and two USB-C and one USB-A port on the left-hand side. We will probably find out whether these leaks are true at the Surface event on March 21.
