MWC 2019: Microsoft Broadcasts HoloLens 2 Release Live via Virtual Reality

Tomorrow Microsoft will present the new generation of its HoloLens at a press conference at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The press conference on 24 February at 18:00 will also be broadcast live and can be followed worldwide via virtual reality glasses. The transmission takes place via AltspaceVR and classically via Microsoft website. The Virtual Reality transmission via AltspaceVR is compatible with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, Microsoft Mixed Reality and Daydream. AltspaceVR was acquired by Microsoft in the fall of 2017. In order to view the transmission via VR, users must first register free of charge.

The HoloLens, which was previously offered for around 5,000 euros, is now around four years old. The new generation will be significantly cheaper, but there is no concrete price yet. The hardware should also be much more powerful. Microsoft will very probably use a Qualcomm chip, which will also have its own Internet connection, to enable the HoloLens to be networked with the company’s cloud services.
