CES 2023: XMG shows notebooks for 2023

In 2023, technology fans can once again look forward to exciting new announcements right at the beginning of the year. The reason for this is the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Well-known manufacturers like XMG, Schenker’s gaming division, will be part of the party. The roadmap that the company has issued for 2023 sounds extremely promising and comes up with no less than four new gaming notebooks – at the beginning of the year alone.

New processors and graphics cards for more power

The upcoming notebooks from XMG feature Intel’s 13th Core generation and the NVIDIA RTX 40 series. Thus, the gaming expert has provided a fresh cell cure in terms of processor and graphics performance. The gaming bulids that will be launched in the spring should therefore be able to handle current AAA titles without any problems. Let’s take a look at the manufacturer’s announcements.

XMG FOCUS

The Focus represents XMG’s entry into the gaming notebook sector. The manufacturer emphasizes that this is by no means a basic device. The 2023 version is rather a step into the “upper performance mid-range”. The gaming notebook is supposed to be available in three different display sizes with FOCUS 15, 16 and 17. Up to now, an Intel Core i7-12700H was the processor under the hood of the notebook, but now it’s replaced by the Intel Core i9-13900HX. This is clearly superior to its predecessor with 24 cores and 32 threads.

In terms of graphics, XMG also updates its equipment. Finally, you can now opt for NVIDIA’s current 40 series. Up to now, the GeForce RTX 3060 was the measure of all things in the Focus’ top configuration. With the RTX 4070, a completely different caliber is used in the maximum configuration. Alternatively, you can also opt for the RTX 4050 or 4060. To prevent overheating in view of the stronger hardware, XMG promises that the cooling system of the FOCUS series has been revised.

XMG PRO

The PRO comes again optionally in the sizes 15 and 17 inches. According to the manufacturer, they also still want to stick to the chassis of last year’s models here. As in the Focus, an Intel Core i9-13900HX and GeForce RTX 4070 are used in the top configuration. The reworked cooling system is supposed to pay off especially here. Up to now, a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti was the maximum that worked in the gaming notebook.

However, the latter couldn’t use its full potential because the cooling conditions didn’t allow it. As a result, the graphics performance had to be artificially reduced. The situation is supposed to be different with the RTX 4070. It should be able to fully utilize its maximum performance of 140 watts. If you don’t need that much power, you should be able to use an RTX 4050 or 4060 as an alternative.

XMG NEO

Also in 2023, the NEO gives you the choice between 16 and 17 inches. While the larger version is an update of the predecessor, XMG wants to completely redevelop the 16-inch variant. In terms of processor performance, they follow the PRO and FOCUS. Thus, a maximum of an Intel Core i9-13900HX is possible here. In terms of graphics performance, however, the manufacturer also allows the installation of NVIDIA’s current top model – the GeForce RTX 4090.

Thanks to the powerful cooling system, this should enable a graphics performance of 175 watts in the gaming notebook. Those who are into water cooling can also optionally opt for an external water cooling system in the form of the XMG OASIS. Another highlight is supposed to be the display, which is supposed to offer an IPS panel in WQXGA resolution as well as a refresh rate of 240 Hz.

XMG ULTRA

With the ULTRA, the new entry in 2023, name seems to be program. This is not only true for the screen size. The gaming notebook is only available as a version with a 17-inch display. Everything seems to be right under the hood of the gaming machine as well. The Intel Core i9-13900HX is once again available in the top configuration. On top of that, you can choose the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090.

But a real hobbyhorse of the new development is likely to be connectivity. It should not only be able to offer two Thunderbolt 4 ports. On top of that, the manufacturer relies on a Mini DisplayPort. However, XMG does not want to release more information about the ULTRA 17 and the other gaming notebooks for 2023 until soon. What we already know so far sounds promising, though.

AMD versions to follow later

As part of its press release, XMG also gave hints about further plans for 2023. First of all, fans of the CORE and FUSION will have to be very strong. The two gaming notebooks from Schenker’s gaming division will not receive an update in 2023. Rather, the FOCUS should also convince the target group of the CORE in the course of its performance increase. On the other hand, XMG still considers the FUSION to be a very good notebook that does not need an update yet. The manufacturer wants to score with a great price-performance ratio here. The company is still somewhat cautious about possible versions with an AMD CPU.

Thus, notebooks “with AMD Ryzen 7000 processors and GeForce RTX graphics cards are in the planning and development phase.” However, it is still too early for an official announcement. A notebook with an AMD CPU and AMD Radeon GPU is also currently in planning, according to XMG. A notebook that will be equipped with an Intel Arc GPU is also planned. Exact release dates for the gaming notebooks presented in the roadmap are still to follow. The XMG NEO will definitely be the first. It is supposed to go on sale at the beginning of the first quarter. The FOCUS will also be launched in the first quarter. The same applies for the PRO. The XMG ULTRA will follow between the first and second quarter.
