In a world where smartphones are becoming more powerful and laptops more mobile, the lines between the two classes of devices are blurring. NexDock XL, a new product that has just hit the market, could blur those lines even further. It’s a device that turns a compatible smartphone into a fully functional 15.6-inch notebook with a 120 Hz touchscreen. In doing so, the device does away with memory, processor or operating system and instead simply connects to the smartphone, either via USB-C or wirelessly.
Technical specifications and features
The NexDock XL is equipped with a 57 Wh battery that is said to provide up to seven hours of battery life. It adds a USB-A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card reader to the functionality of the connected smartphone. Furthermore, the device’s display can also be controlled via a mini-HDMI port. With an overall height of 16.6 millimeters and a weight of 1.91 kilograms, the NexDock XL is thicker and heavier than many ultrabooks, but it still offers impressive portability.
Price and Availability
The NexDock XL is available for pre-order now via the manufacturer’s website at a price of $349. The manufacturer also ships to Germany and Austria. However, the keyboard is only offered with QWERTY layout in ANSI format. Buyers have to consider shipping and import costs in addition to the purchase price.
