OnePlus Buds Pro 2: AirPods clone with great sound announced

As part of its Cloud 11 event, OnePlus has unveiled a brand new pair of wireless in-ears. The upcoming OnePlus Buds Pro 2 at least look like a black version of Apple’s AirPods Pro. According to the manufacturer, however, the focus should be on the great sound anyway, which the Chinese company has developed in collaboration with the Danish sound experts from Dynaudio.

OnePlus Buds Pro 2 come in black Apple design

In terms of design, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 also do not reinvent the wheel. Rather, the basic shapes are clearly based on the tech giant Apple once again. This was also the case with the predecessor introduced in August 2021. Here, a short stem serves as the control unit of the wireless in-ears. The features are also reminiscent of the competition. The headphones offer active noise cancellation (ANC), which can be adjusted in three stages. Conversely, a transparency mode is also supposed to be available. This amplifies the ambient noise, which is practical for conversations or loudspeaker announcements at the train station or airport, for example. The three built-in microphones should not only be used for ANC, but also enable high-quality phone calls.

To ensure that the headphones not only look chic, but also sound good, OnePlus got support from real audio experts for the inner values – Dynaudio from Denmark. The result is two powerful drivers per headphone. While a 6 mm tweeter is supposed to provide crystal-clear highs, OnePlus says that an 11 mm driver takes care of powerful basses. The latter is supposed to be particularly punchy with the help of a self-developed algorithm. Finally, the sound can be adjusted to the user’s taste via EQ settings. Of course, the fit in the ear is also a matter of taste. OnePlus probably includes three different earpieces with the in-ears. So pretty much everyone should find what they are looking for.

OnePlus Buds Pro 2 are said to offer wearability and ease of use

The Chinese smartphone expert promises not only a high wearing comfort of the lightweight headphones. On top of that, they are supposed to be able to adapt the emitted sound to the wearer’s individual ear canal. The ear recognition is also practical. This is supposed to automatically pause playback when a plug is removed from the ear, for example. Athletes, on the other hand, will be pleased with the IP55 certification.

This provides protection against the damaging penetration of dirt and water.  The manufacturer also promises convenience when it comes to controlling the OnePlus Buds Pro 2. Buttons located on the stems apparently act as the centerpiece here. The latest codecs in the form of AAC, LC3, LHDC 4.0 and SBC promise lossless and high-quality music playback even without cables. Bluetooth 5.3 is supposed to do the rest.

Also suitable for Apple users

Those looking for a black pair of AirPods Pro might find what they’re looking for with the OnePlus Buds Pro 2. After all, they can also be conveniently used with iOS devices. All you have to do is download the appropriate app from the app store. Of course, it is also possible to use them with other Android devices. While you also need a separate app here, the use with a smartphone from OnePlus is also possible without an app.

The small in-ears are charged in their charging or transport case. By the way, this is also protected against splashing water (IPX4). A total of 25 hours of music enjoyment should be possible with a fully charged case and headphones. The battery of the headphones themselves is supposed to last up to 6 hours with ANC turned on. Once the case is empty, it can be charged via USB-C or a Qi charging surface.

Price and availability

The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 is available for pre-order now. The in-ears, which are available in green or black, have an MSRP of 179.00 euros. According to OnePlus, the delivery will start in February.
