Ora Funky Cat: Small e-car starts from 38,990 euros

The Ora Funky Cat, a small electric car, will also launch in Germany in January 2023. Following the partnership announced in August 2022 by parent company Great Wall Motors (GWM) with the European car dealer group Emil Frey from Switzerland, the Funky Cat is the first model to also come to Europe.

Ora Funky Cat: E-compact car from January 2023 in Germany

A companion for every situation in life, the Ora Funky Cat from Chinese group Great Wall Motors (GWM) aims to mark its arrival with a high level of safety and comfort features such as a massage function.

The Funky Cat aims to combine a retro-futuristic design with a European look and relies on smart features. Using facial recognition, the car recognizes you and thus tunes in your favorite music and adjusts the interior climate.

Videos and TV broadcasts can be watched on a second, large display, while voice control is also possible via the “Hello ORA” command. This makes it possible, for example, to open the trunk or panoramic glass roof by voice command. With 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test, the e-compact car is also very safe and offers a five-year warranty with no mileage limit.

Three variants in Germany

So far, only the UK website of the manufacturer provides technical details. According to it, the Ora Funky Cat measures 4,235 x 1,825 x 1,603 mm and comes with a 171-hp front-mounted engine – at least in the case of the First Edition.

According to press release from the manufacturer, however, three variants of the electric car will make it to Germany. They all rely on 171 hp and differ in the capacity of the battery. The entry-level model has a capacity of 48 kWh, while the two other variants, the Funky Cat and Funky Cat GT, have a capacity of 63 kWh.

The top speed is 160 km/h, but the manufacturer does not yet name an official range according to WLTP. In China, however, up to 420 km should be possible with the larger battery or around 300 km with the smaller battery. Consumption for the European models is between 16.5 and 16.8 kWh/100 km, according to the manufacturer.

Prices and availability

The Ora Funky Cat electric compact car is scheduled to launch in Germany as early as January 2023. The 38,990-euro basic version aims to impress with comprehensive entertainment and assistance systems; the manufacturer has not yet named prices for the higher equipment lines.
