Peugeot e-5008: French E-SUV with strong data

With the Peugeot e-5008, the French car manufacturer wants to launch a spacious all-electric E-SUV on the market that is primarily aimed at families. However, you will probably have to bring a certain budget with you.

Peugeot e-5008 offers plenty of space

Just a few years ago, many families decided against an electric car because there was simply not enough space inside. However, there are now many models on the market that come with a large interior and plenty of storage space. The Peugeot e-5008 clearly falls into this category, and the new electric SUV from the French manufacturer has now been officially unveiled.

Looking at the data, it quickly becomes clear that this model will be significantly ahead of its siblings from the parent company Stellantis. This mainly concerns engine and charging performance as well as the sheer range. But let’s start with the visual aspects. At first glance, the Peugeot e-5008 looks quite restrained. The familiar rounded shapes, which were also typical of its predecessors, are already familiar. But the dimensions have changed a little.

The van is almost 15 cm longer than its predecessor. This promises significantly more legroom in the interior. But there is not only plenty of space for passengers thanks to the third row of seats. The trunk volume also makes it clear that this van is perfect for families. When the third row of seats is folded up, there is a volume of 259 liters. With the row folded down, the volume is a whopping 1,815 liters.

A total of three engine versions

In order to combine sportiness and practicality for everyday use, the Peugeot e-5008 is of course also available in a sporty GT version. This also comes fully equipped and was therefore used as a showcase model during the presentation. The cockpit has a modern look and comes with a 21-inch display. Of course, this is not standard. Instead of one large screen in the base model, there will be two displays, each measuring 10 inches.

When it comes to safety, the focus on families becomes clear again. The French company wants to offer a total of 40 different driving and safety assistants. Peugeot wants to launch its E-SUV in three different all-electric versions. A 157 kW motor with a battery capacity of 73 kWh will be the entry-level model. The mid-range is a motorization that focuses on range.

A 170 kW engine and a fairly large 98 kWh battery work together here. The GT version naturally focuses on performance and therefore offers a dual-motor design. In addition to the 157 kW motor of the basic version, there is also an 83 kW motor at the rear. According to Adam Riese, this results in an impressive 240 kW. However, the range in the top model is likely to be the lowest. After all, “only” the 73 kWh battery from the base model is used here too.

Peugeot e-5008 with powerful charging performance

Not only the motor, but also the charging performance sounds quite solid. The all-electric van should be able to reach a peak of 160 kW. Of course, the competition is still far ahead here. But within the Group, this is a step in the right direction.

This clearly sets the e-5008 apart from other electric cars at Stellantis. The whole thing is of course somewhat slower with alternating current. In the base version, 11 kW is possible here. In the course of time, however, Peugeot also wants to offer a version that makes 22 kW possible.

Price and availability

The Peugeot e-5008 not only sounds like a good addition to the market for family-friendly electric vans. It also looks like a strong comeback for Stellantis. After all, the car manufacturer has so far only been able to watch the race to dominate the electric car market. With the new addition, however, it is catching up again. But as attractive as the e-SUV may sound, the price is unfortunately likely to be high. So far, we can only speculate as to what Peugeot will charge here. However, a significantly smaller e-3008 already costs almost 49,000 euros for the basic version. We will therefore have to reckon with a starting price of over 50,000 euros.
