Philips 498P9Z: 49 inch gaming monitor presented

With the 498P9Z, Philips presents a new gaming monitor that, like the 498P9 model introduced a year ago, measures 49.8 inches diagonally and thus clearly stands out from the mass of gaming monitors available on the market.

Similarities to the 498P9

The similarities to the predecessor model are also hard to miss in the details. For example, the new 498P9Z uses a VA panel just like the predecessor, which resolves with 5,120 x 1,440 pixels and thus achieves a pixel density of 109 ppi with an aspect ratio of 32:9. The 1,800-R curvature also corresponds to that of the predecessor.

The new monitor wants to set itself apart especially with its high refresh rate of 165 Hz. In addition, the device is supposed to convince with integrated Adaptive Sync technology, a DisplayHDR400 certified brightness of up to 550 candela per square meter and a wide color space coverage – with a color depth of eight bits, the device covers 122 percent of sRGb, 91 percent of DCI-P3 and 89 percent of AdobeRGB.

The monitor is also equipped with a blue light filter, flicker-free backlighting and two integrated speakers. In addition, there are various connections. In addition to a DisplayPort 1.4 port, the device has a USB 3.2 hub, three HDMI 2.0 ports and a headphone jack.

Overall, the new 498P9Z is thus a bit better equipped than its predecessor, from which it can hardly be distinguished visually, though.

Price and availability

The screen will be available from August 2021, and Philips is calling for a price of 1,149 euros, which means the device costs exactly 200 euros more than its predecessor.
