Playstation VR 2: Start of production is imminent

The PlayStation 5 should be looking forward to new VR glasses in the foreseeable future. The Chinese contract manufacturer Goertek is said to be on the verge of mass producing components for the Playstation VR 2. Does the VR headset await us sooner than expected?

Playstation VR 2 production start soon

The PlayStation VR has almost six years under its belt and marks the only VR headset in the console segment to date. The rumors about a successor for the PlayStation 5 have persisted for quite some time, but this could now appear sooner than assumed.

The Playstation VR 2 is apparently about to go into mass production. At least that’s what a developer via Twitter writes, citing a credible expert from the Chinese contract manufacturer Goertek for supply chains.

Conceivably, Sony could unveil the headset in a big way at the Game Developers Conference 2022. It will be held in Las Vegas from March 21 to 25, 2022. Shortly after that, the PSVR 2 could go on sale. Perhaps just in time for the sixth birthday of the PSVR headset on October 13.

Controller and features

Sony had already officially announced the successor to Playstation VR in spring 2021. No information or images of the headset are available yet, but there are of the VR dualsense controllers. Like the PS5 controller, they feature adaptive triggers, among other things, which have a noticeable resistance when pressed, depending on the situation.

According to credible rumors, the PlayStation VR 2 headset will also rely on haptic feedback directly on the head. Thus, it would be possible to realistically simulate different situations in virtual space – for example, head hits in shooters or similar.

The Playstation VR 2 is rumored to offer a resolution of 2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye. The current model brings it to 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It remains to be seen whether these are the only recently introduced VR glasses with a 4K OLED display.
