QNAP: QTS 5.0 is now available

Those who are familiar with the NAS segment will certainly know the company QNAP. The manufacturer of powerful home networks has now released the latest version of its NAS system with QTS 5.0.

Beta test apparently successful

Those who wanted to take a look at the latest version of QTS in advance were able to let off steam in the beta of the software. Since the testers of the pre-release version are apparently satisfied and vulnerabilities have been ironed out, QNAP felt prepared for a public release of the final version. The list of improvements compared to the previous version reads very well. QNAP not only focuses on modernizing the Linux kernel. On top of that, the performance of the NVMe SSD cache and the system security are said to have been improved. WireGuard VPN is also supported at last.

QNAP has listed the most important innovations in a press release:

Major new apps and features in QTS 5.0:.
Free exFAT support for x86-based NAS:

exFAT is a file system that supports files up to 16EB and is optimized for flash storage (e.g. SD cards and USB devices). This speeds up the transfer and sharing of large media files.

TeamViewer Support:
By installing the TeamViewer QNAP NAS app, users can remotely manage and connect to all their QNAP NAS devices from a Windows® PC – a secure remote access solution that does not require complex VPN settings.

Optimized User Interface:
Provides smoother navigation, a comfortable visual design, a hint board to simplify first-time NAS installation, and a search bar on the main menu to quickly find apps.

Enhanced Security:
Supports TLS 1.3, automatically updates both QTS and apps, and provides SSH key authentication for secure NAS access.

WireGuard VPN Support:
The new QVPN 3.0 integrates the lightweight and reliable WireGuard VPN, providing users with a secure connection and an easy-to-use interface.

Improved NVMe SSD Cache Performance:
The new kernel improves the performance and utilization of NVMe SSDs. When cache acceleration is enabled, SSD storage can be used more efficiently while reducing the load on storage resources.

DA Drive Analyzer with AI-powered diagnostics:
The DA Drive Analyzer uses cloud-based AI to predict the expected life of drives and helps users plan for eventual drive replacement to protect against potential unexpected downtime and data loss.

Improved image recognition with Edge TPU:
By combining Edge TPU with QNAP AI Core (the AI-powered engine for image recognition), QuMagic can perform faster face and object recognition, while QVR Face improves real-time video analysis for instant face recognition.

QuFTP meets secure file transfer:
The QNAP NAS can act as an FTP server with encrypted SSL/TLS connection, QoS bandwidth control, setting FTP transfer limits or speed limits for users and groups. QuFTP also supports FTP clients.
