iPad Mini, Android tablets with a size of up to 8 inches, Android smartphones and the iPhone 15 series are to be given console-level operation via USB-C with the Razer Kishi Ultra, promises manufacturer Razer at the presentation of the new Kishi Ultra mobile gaming controller.

One new feature, for example, is the full-size grip, in which the manufacturer has installed Chroma RGB lighting in the grip horns. It is precisely these grips that represent the biggest design innovation and are intended to provide a better feel. The wired controller can also be used on a PC and should score points with its high-quality features.

This includes, for example, mecha-tactile ABXY buttons and an 8-way D-pad, which should ensure the highest possible responsiveness. The console-sized triggers offer a reverb effect and are designed to trigger precisely. There are also analog sticks with robust, abrasion-resistant rings and a 3.5 mm jack connection for connecting headphones.

On the back are programmable L4 and R4 buttons, which is a novelty in the field of mobile games and was previously known more from professional gamepads for PC and consoles. the Kishi Ultra weighs 266 grams and is 110.8 mm long and 244.8 mm wide (folded) or 334.8 mm wide (unfolded).

Nexus app and HD haptics

The controller is also supported by the subscription-free Razer Nexus app, which provides access to thousands of controller-compatible games for iOS and Android. It can also be used to customize the controls, record gameplay or further improve the gaming experience via Virtual Controller Mode for Android devices.

The Kishi Ultra is the first commercially available device with the new Razer Sensa HD Haptics, which is currently only available on devices with Android 12 and Windows 11 or higher. This promises a stronger, more detailed and more nuanced vibration than is the case with conventional controllers.

“The reason for this is the patent-pending broadband high-definition haptics, which is made possible by a haptic coil in each grip and offers a multidirectional and immersive haptic experience that surpasses conventional console controllers, ” says the manufacturer.

With the support of the Interhaptics SDK, developers can create customized haptic experiences for their new and updated titles. In addition, PC and Android titles can convert acoustics into haptic signals thanks to audio-to-haptics technology.

Price and availability

The Razer Kishi Ultra mobile controller is now available in stores. The manufacturer’s recommended retail price is 169.99 euros. Additional details can be found on the Razer product website.
