Rumor: Apple Is Planning a 20-inch MacBook With Foldable Screen

We all know that Apple is working on new, innovative ideas behind closed doors. Rumors about an iPhone Fold, i.e. a foldable iPhone in the style of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip models, have been circulating for some time now. But there have been no concrete details so far. Now a new rumor is doing the rounds. Apple is said to be working on a MacBook Fold with a foldable 20-inch display. It could be released in around three years’ time.

The market for foldable smartphones, known as foldables, has grown enormously in recent years. Almost every (Android) manufacturer that thinks highly of itself now offers at least one foldable. Apple, on the other hand, has not yet introduced anything comparable, although the rumor mill has been churning for years.

Foldable notebooks and tablets are also no longer all that exotic. Now Apple is also said to be working on a foldable MacBook, at least according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on Twitter/X. The MacBook Fold is “Apple’s only foldable product with a clear development timeline,” according to Kuo.

According to Kuo, the 20.3-inch notebook is set to go into mass production in 2027. However, the analyst is not the only one talking about a foldable Apple laptop. Last year, Korean magazine The Elec was already talking about such a laptop, while display analyst Ross Young said he had already heard about a foldable laptop with a 20.5-inch display in January 2023.

Of course, none of this is yet confirmed. It also remains unclear whether Apple will introduce a foldable MacBook as a new product or whether it will be marketed as a MacBook Pro in future.

Currently, the largest laptop Apple offers is the MacBook Pro with a 16-inch display. Just earlier this week, Apple unveiled the 2024 MacBook Air M3, a new edition of its ultra-thin and fanless notebook, which is available in 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch sizes and will be sold from March 8, 2024.
