Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink: SSD with heat sink soon available in Germany

Samsung also brings its SSD 980 PRO including a heatsink to Germany. The SSD including heatsink is thus also suitable for the PlayStation 5 and is aimed at PC and console gamers who want to get the maximum performance out of it.

Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink was developed in just three months

Developed by Samsung in just three months, the 980 PRO Heatsink primarily addresses heavy users whose gaming habits push PCs and consoles to their limits. The discussion about the necessity of a heatsink was triggered when Sony recommended SSDs with heatsink for the memory expansion of the Playstation 5.

The new Samsung 980 PRO heatsink will be available in stores as early as the beginning of November. Despite the integrated heatsink, the 980 PRO comes in a slim design with a height of 8.6 mm. Thus, it is not only recommended for the Playstation 5, but also for desktop PCs and laptops, which specify up to 8.8 mm according to the PCI-SIG D8 standard specification.

Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink

The 980 PRO with Heatsink is designed for demanding gaming performance and shows remarkable low-temperature performance in Samsung’s own test scenario. In addition, Samsung’s new SSD can reduce the fan operation of PCs and gaming consoles, allowing users to focus on gaming without unnecessary background noise.

Up to 7,000 MB/s read speed

The 980 PRO Heatsink comes with PCIe 4.0 interface and delivers sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s and 5,100 MB/s, respectively, similar to the 980 PRO. This makes it twice as fast as 3rd generation PCIe NVMe SSDs and up to 12.7 times faster than SATA SSDs.

This also makes Samsung’s 980 PRO series attractive where high performance is required – in addition to gaming, for example, also in professional image and video editing.

Price and Availability

The Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink SSD will be available in 1 terabyte and 2 TB capacities in early November 2021. The smaller model has an MSRP of 219.90 euros. The 2 TB variant will cost 419.90 Euros.
