Samsung 990 Pro SSD suffers from rapid wear and tear
Samsung has announced a new firmware for some of its SSDs. The update is supposed to particularly affect the models whose stated write performance apparently does not correspond to reality. This includes the Samsung 990 Pro, one of the flagships of the South Korean tech company.
Samsung responds to negative customer reports
Apparently, Samsung is currently dealing with problems with its 990 Pro SSD. According to some customer reviews, this is said to reach its maximum write performance early. The problem seems to be serious at times. After all, there are apparently isolated customers whose SSD could see wear in the software after only a few TB of data. The wear of the flash memory is indicated there in percentage points (we reported). Especially for a high-end SSD, this is of course anything but usual. After all, you have to send a considerable amount of TB back and forth so that the wear and tear also changes something. Samsung does not take long and has immediately addressed the problem. A corresponding update is supposed to make sure that the display for wear corresponds to the facts again.

Firmware of Samsung 990 Pro apparently faulty
Experts are sure that behind the problem is a bug in the software of the SSD. This seems obvious, since the 980 Pro also already suffered from similar errors. Accordingly, owners of a Samsung 990 Pro or 980 Pro should install the latest software as soon as possible. Samsung’s Magician software can serve as an optimal partner. It not only provides your SSD with the latest firmware. You can also check the status of your storage device. If there are any errors, you will know quickly. At the moment, it is not yet known what the extent of the error is for the SSDs. The tech company still wants to carry out extensive investigations.
