Samsung Galaxy Watch 4: Hardware details published, prices leaked

Samsung will present new hardware at the “Galaxy Unpacked” event at 4:00 p.m. German time. It is not yet clear what exactly the South Koreans will show – but the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 smartphones as well as the new Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch are considered hot candidates. Regarding the new wearable, the official hardware details have already been announced, while a leak reveals the prices.

The hardware of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Ahead of Wednesday’s event, Samsung has already revealed details of its new weareable generation Galaxy Watch 4, which will rely on Google’s Wear OS including One UI Watch user interface for the first time. Under the hood is the 5 nm Exynos W920 chip, a brand-new chipset with a lot of power that was especially developed for wearables.

Two Cortex-A55 cores are used, which we already know from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 (which uses four of these cores). An ARM Mali-G68 serves as the graphics chip, which achieves a qHD resolution of up to 960 x 540 pixels.

According to Samsung, the new chip is said to deliver up to a 20 percent increase in processing power and ten times better graphics performance compared to the Galaxy Watch 3. At the same time, power efficiency is said to have been optimized, which could result in longer battery life – an area where Wear OS smartwatches have so far been inferior to the competition.

With the always-on display, a Cortex-M55 CPU is also used, which is a third, frugal chip. This is supposed to be able to display the time, notifications and missed calls without having to rely on the full power of the main processor.

Pre-order bonuses and prices of the Galaxy Watch 4 leaked

The usually quite reliable leaker _snoopytech_ has also revealed the pre-order bonuses and prices of the new smartwatch generation via Twitter. Currently, however, the information is still to be taken with a grain of salt. The leaker reports that pre-orderers of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 can look forward to Google Play credit.

According to the leaker, the Galaxy Watch 4 will replace the Active version and start at €279 for the 40 mm model. The 44 mm model will be priced at €309. There is supposed to be €60 credit as a bonus here.

The new top model Galaxy Watch 4 Classic reportedly starts at € 379, while customers are to get € 85 credit as a gift. This credit can be used to buy apps for the smartwatch, among other things.
