Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G: New foldable at surprisingly affordable price revealed

The second smartphone that Samsung presented at the Unpacked event is called Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. The foldable is water-resistant, comes in bright colors and that at an attractive price to boot.

Focus on the mass market

With the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, Samsung sets its sights on the mass market for the first time. As with the also freshly announced Galaxy Z Fold3, the South Koreans have especially tweaked the durability of the foldable: Thanks to the Armor aluminum case, Gorilla Glass Victus and IPX8 certification, the third Flip is now a reliable companion even in outdoor use.

Samsung also counteracts the biggest problem of the predecessor, namely the mini-ticker display on the outside, in the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. It now measures 1.9-inches and is thus four times larger than the predecessor. In addition, smart widgets can be used and payments can be made via Samsung Pay.

Notifications, weather reports or calendar entries can be conveniently displayed on the ticker display and are thus immediately visible even when closed. Selfie fans should also be pleased, so the Galaxy Z Flip3 can be set up at an angle between 75 and 115 degrees, for example, to be used for selfies or video chats.

Display, features and cameras of the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G uses a 6.7-inch 120 Hz AMOLED panel that relies on a 22:9 form factor. It offers a FHD+ resolution (2,640 x 1,080 pixels) with a pixel density of 425 ppi.

When closed, the Flip3 is also extremely compact and measures just 86.4 x 72.2 x 17.1 mm. The weight of only 183 grams is also within limits. From a technical point of view, Samsung relies on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 including 5G support, a fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers and even expandable storage.

Samsung even installs a headphone jack, while a charger or dual-SIM are unfortunately missing – but an eSIM can be used in addition to the nano-SIM slot. However, the battery capacity of 3300 mAh gives us pause for thought. Charging is done with 15 watts in wired mode or 10 watts wirelessly.

When it comes to the camera setup, Samsung relies on the familiar for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G. On the front, a 10-megapixel camera with f2.4 does its job. On the back, there is room for two 12-megapixel lenses each, here the foldable relies on a wide-angle camera (f1.8, 1/2.55″ sensor) and an ultra-wide-angle cam (f2.2, 1/3.0″ sensor).

Pricing and Availability

There is good news regarding the pricing of the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. The foldable smartphone will start from an MSRP of €1049.00 in the variant with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Additionally, a model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage will be offered, with an MSRP of € 1,099.00.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G will be released in seven different colors on August 27, 2021: Cream, Phantom Black, Green, and Lavender will be available to choose from in open stores, while Gray, White, and Pink variants will be available exclusively at the Samsung Store.
