The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (2024) in detail

The new Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (2024) changes a lot compared to its excellent predecessor, which we only tested in March 2024. The new model uses a 32-inch anti-glare QD OLED panel with a 4K UHD resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels.

It achieves a typical brightness of 250 nits and peaks at up to 1,000 nits. As is typical for OLEDs, the contrast ratio is infinite, while the refresh rate is 240 Hz and the response time is 0.03 ms.

In addition to two HDMI 2.1 and one DisplayPort 1.4 port, there are two USB 3.0 ports, WLAN and Bluetooth. However, Samsung does not include a USB-C port. Measuring 719.7 x 584.6 x 263.5 mm and weighing 8.4 kg, the monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and comes with the familiar SMART features such as a gaming hub and Bixby. Speakers are built in and there is also burn-in protection in accordance with Samsung OLED Safeguard.

AI upscaling in the new Samsung monitor

The AI upscaling of the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (2024) in the Smart Hub is particularly interesting. Movies, series and games streamed in the gaming hub can be upscaled to 4K UHD resolution with the help of artificial intelligence to display more details.

This is made possible by the built-in N8Q AI processor, which is also used in current Neo QLED 8K Smart TVs. A new active Dynamic Cooling System with additional algorithms is designed to keep waste heat in check.

Price and availability

The new Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (2024) will be available in stores on July 12, 2024 and can be pre-ordered from Samsung now. The recommended retail price is 1,389.04 euros.

Pre-order customers will receive the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro in-ear headphones as a free gift between June 4 and June 26. Samsung is also offering a trade-in bonus of up to 150 euros when trading in an old device.
