Samsung’s latest folding smartphones: Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5

Samsung has unveiled the fifth generation of its foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. The improvements are more in the details, but they are still remarkable.

In the Galaxy Z Fold 5, one of the most noticeable changes is the hinge. In previous models, there was always a small gap between the two halves when the device was folded. In the fifth iteration, Samsung’s engineers have fixed this problem. The two halves of the Z Fold 5 can now be folded flush, making the device more visually appealing and handy.

Specifications and design

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 features a 7.6-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a 120Hz frame rate when unfolded. When folded, users have a 6.2-inch outer display that shows content at a frame rate between 48 to 120 Hz.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5, on the other hand, has a 3.4-inch outer display and a 6.7-inch inner AMOLED screen with 120 Hz. The Flip model measures just 85.1 × 71.9 × 15.1 mm when folded, offering a compact alternative to the Fold 5.

Camera and performance

In terms of camera, there is an advancement on the back of the Z Fold 5. The front camera resolves with 10 megapixels, respectively with four megapixels underneath the display on the inside. The Galaxy Z Flip 5, on the other hand, has a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel super-wide-angle camera, as well as a front camera with 10 megapixels.

Both devices are equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is currently the fastest Android mobile processor. Thanks to the 4,400 mAh batteries on the Fold and 3,700 mAh on the Flip, the smart phones are said to have a battery life of more than a day.

Availability and price

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is available for pre-order now and will cost from €1,899 for the model with at least 256 gigabytes of storage. The smaller Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, on the other hand, will go on sale starting at 1,199 Euros. Both smartphones will be available on August 4.
