Signify introduces WiZ indoor camera

Signify offers WiZ, a home surveillance system. Previously based primarily on light activation and motion notifications, the system now adds an indoor camera.

The WiZ System

The WiZ system is designed to monitor one’s home when away. Signify relies primarily on two components here: Lights and notifications. Both components are activated by motion and are designed to deter possible intruders on the one hand and to provide control over what is happening on the other. In addition, there is the option of switching on the light in the house in phases to simulate presence. Here, consequently, the use of light is not dependent on detected movements.

Indoor camera

The indoor camera now presented is intended to complement the system and provide users with further monitoring options. Via the camera, they can gain immediate insight into the situation in the event of a motion alarm. This in turn means that they do not have to inform other people before they know whether a break-in is in progress. To make full use of the camera, it is equipped with a night vision function. This means that crisp images can be viewed even at night. Furthermore, the camera is equipped with a sound sensor. This means it can also sound the alarm in the event of suspicious noise – for example, if a window breaks or the smoke detector goes off. The respective alarms are issued via an app, which can also be used to view the camera images. In addition, the lighting routines for presence simulation can be controlled here.

Danny Lousberg of Signify summarizes the surveillance system as follows, “Building on our expertise in lighting, WiZ has developed the first fully integrated smart home surveillance solution based on the features of smart lights and combining them with the benefits of a powerful camera.”

Price and Availability

The indoor camera, which complements the existing WiZ system, will be available exclusively from Amazon on May 15. It costs 89.99 euros. For 3.99 euros per month or 44 euros per year, it is also possible to activate additional functions, such as cloud storage of recordings. Furthermore, the entire system will be offered as a starter package for 159.99 euros from July.
