Sonos: US manufacturer plans to launch first headphones in 2024

Up to now, we have only known Sonos from the production of powerful-sounding streaming speakers. Now the US manufacturer wants to bring other products onto the market. In addition to headphones, they are probably also working on a kind of streaming stick.

Sonos headphones to be launched in summer

Does your home theater setup consist exclusively of Sonos speakers and is there at least one Play:One in every room? Then you as a fan can soon look forward to new products from the manufacturer. The US company also seems to want to conquer new sectors. The first headphones from Sonos are set to arrive in summer 2024. This is according to a report by Bloomberg. However, the release may still be on the back burner. After all, there are still a few problems with the software that need to be worked out before the release.

The highlight of the headphones? The US manufacturer wants to play to its strengths and knowledge from the loudspeaker sector and incorporate powerful WLAN technology inside the headphones. In addition to this, wireless connections should also be possible with classic Bluetooth. However, Wi-Fi reception also seems to be a reason why Sonos will not be able to meet the originally planned release date of March 2024. There still seem to be some minor problems here. But understandably, Sonos does not want to do without it.

Finally, the Sonos headphones can also be integrated into the Sonos system at home. Furthermore, the integrated WiFi should make it possible for the headphones, which Sonos is currently calling the project “Duke”, to independently access streaming services such as Spotify. But that seems to be just the beginning. The headphones, which are probably called “Duke” internally at Sonos, will soon have company. With the so-called “Disco”, the company also wants to bring small true wireless in-ears onto the market. Bluetooth and WiFi should also be on board as standard in the mini headphones.

Competition for FireTV Stick

In addition to “Duke” and “Disco”, Sonos also wants to launch another exciting product. In 2025, we are very likely to see a streaming device from the company. Its range of functions is reminiscent of a FireTV Stick from Amazon or an Apple TV. For example, all common streaming services will run on the device. The rumor mill is predicting a price of between 150 and 200 US dollars. That would be a hefty price if Sonos were not to add further features to the gadget.

In the same price range as Sony

While the prices of the streaming device and the true wireless in-ears are still the subject of speculation, the company seems to have already agreed internally on the market price of the “Duke”. At market launch, they will probably be available in either black or white headphones at an RRP of 450 US dollars. This would put the Sonos headphones in the same price range as the premium ANC headphones from Sony and Bose.
