Soundboks Go: Mobile Bluetooth speaker with 121 dB volume and 40 hours runtime

With the Soundboks Go, the company Soundboks has introduced a portable Bluetooth speaker that reaches an impressive volume of 121 dB and lasts for 40 hours. Portability, however, is more of a theoretical nature, because the good piece weighs almost 10 kg.

The Soundboks Go in detail

The (by manufacturer standards) small Bluetooth performance speaker Soundboks Go aims to provide powerful music playback anywhere. It features a carrying handle and a replaceable battery that should last for around 40 hours. However, only at medium volume. Turn the controls all the way up and it’s only 10 hours in, while the 12.8V, 7.8Ah lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery fully charges in 3.5 hours.

“You can pack it in, toss it around, and rock it back and forth. The Go fits in the back seat, on the bike rack, and over your shoulder,” the manufacturer promises on its own website, which speaks to a rugged design. Weighing 9.2 kg, the Danish company’s portable speaker comes in at 45.9 × 31.6 × 26.6 cm (length x height x depth).

The high weight is made necessary by the impressive technology that lies dormant in the Soundboks Go. Thus, two 72-watt Class D amplifiers, a 10-inch woofer and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter are used, which together with the Merus Audio eximo amplifier circuit should provide a powerful sound.

Bluetooth 5.0 with app support

Wirelessly, the Soundboks Go transmits via Bluetooth 5.0 and connects wirelessly with other devices from the manufacturer, such as up to five Soundboks (Gen 3) and Go speakers, thanks to the TeamUP feature. There is also a 3.5 mm stereo jack connection.

A frequency range of 40 Hz to 20,000 Hz is covered, while user-defined sound profiles are available for various applications. The integrated Soudboks bass amplifier for boosting bass and volume performs an enormous 121 dB.

With the help of the Soundboks app, even more features are available. These include custom EQ or selection of a manufacturer-optimized sound profile, (Bass+, Power, Indoor), advanced TeamUp control, SKAA Pro mode for lower latency with multiple speakers and firmware updates.

A five-stage LED display on the speaker informs about the battery status of the approximately 100 Wh battery. The high-quality and robust unibody housing is also protected against water according to IP65 certification.
