Specialized Porto: New cargo bike wants to conquer the city

Specialized can only produce high-quality mountain bikes and road bikes? Apparently not. Now the bike manufacturer has presented a cargo bike called the Specialized Porto.

Specialized Porto with high load capacity

Cargo bikes have become very popular in recent years. According to some transport experts, the resilient bikes could even play a fundamental role in road traffic in urban centers in the future. Thanks to their storage options and load capacity, cargo bikes, most of which are assisted by an electric motor, could serve as a car replacement for many people.

In terms of load capacity, the new Specialized Porto also scores with presentable values. You should be able to transport up to 160 kg with the cargo e-bike. According to the manufacturer, it is suitable for people between 155 cm and 195 cm tall.

Great equipment

The frame of the 39.6 kg cargo bike is made of aluminum. The front carrier alone weighs 3 kg. That speaks for high-quality workmanship. But how does Specialized intend to assert itself against the competition? One of the main arguments is likely to be the exciting features. The manufacturer has integrated a radar system from Garmin, which is primarily intended to ensure safety.

If another road user is approaching, it issues a corresponding warning, which is intended to prevent collisions. The rest of the equipment scores points above all for its practicality. For example, the Specialized Porto has two pannier racks. Accessories such as panniers or child seats can be mounted on the front rack. A mid-motor with a power output of 250 watts ensures a maximum speed of 25 km/h. The drive also sounds really good.

A Gates CDX Carbon Drive is used here. Hydraulic brake discs ensure safe braking. Specialized also includes other safety features such as headlights (500 lumens), a brake light and a rear-view mirror as standard. Motor support for up to five hours rounds off the equipment. The 710 Wh battery can be easily removed for charging.

Price and availability

With the Specialized Porto, an exciting cargo bike is rolling towards us. In view of the fact that the industry king Babboe is currently struggling with a sales ban due to safety issues with its own cargo bikes, the timing could hardly be better. However, you also need to have a correspondingly generous budget. The stylish cargo e-bike costs an impressive 6,500.00 euros.
