Tesla Gigafactory Berlin: Deliveries as early as March 2022?

Production at the Tesla factory in Grünheide is picking up speed. The US automaker expects the first Tesla Model Y models to roll off the production line at the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin in just a few weeks.

Tesla Gigafactory Berlin: production starts

US carmaker Tesla firmly expects production at the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin to start as early as Küre. Accordingly, series production at the new plant in Grünheide is expected to start in just a few weeks, according to an email posted on a forum for Tesla users.

It says that “also the Model Y from Berlin is now available for order”and “is expected to be delivered from March”. In November 2021, production had already started as part of a test run.

In other mails, however, there is talk of the first Model Y Performance already being built in Berlin and pre-orders could be placed. The Tesla employee, on the other hand, does not expect delivery until May 2022.

However, the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment (LfU) has still not issued a final permit for the construction of the so-called Gigafactory. Before the final decision is made, only 2,000 cars will be allowed to roll off the assembly line at the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin. If the state office gives the go-ahead, Tesla plans to employ around 12,000 people in Grünheide in the future and manufacture around 500,000 cars per year.

Tesla Model Y from February 2022

Tesla will offer the Model Y electric car from February 2022, according to its own configurator, in “maximum range” and “performance” variants, with the latter model to be available from March 2022.

However, then only in the colors white and black. The other three color options (gray, blue and red) will not be available until May. Model Y and Model 3 are also supposed to have been improved once again, as the aforementioned mail states.

Tesla is said to have optimized the range of both electric cars in particular, according to which the Model Y is now said to travel 565 km, while the Model 3 reaches 626 km. Other improvements include, for example, a new lithium-ion battery for low voltage, noise-insulating double glazing and an improved music system.
