UGREEN NASync: Six NAS solutions now available

We know manufacturer UGREEN primarily for its outstanding docking solutions such as the Thunderbolt 4 dock Revdock Max 213 (our test) or GaN chargers such as the cute Nexode RG in robot design. With the UGREEN NASync series, the company is now entering the network-attached storage (NAS) solutions segment. The series, which is now available on Kickstarter, comprises a total of six models.

The UGREEN NASync series in detail

Network storage is popular. After all, they are a practical solution for quickly and easily setting up your own cloud. Manufacturer UGREEN has also recognized this and is now also entering this segment.

The new UGREEN NASync series comprises six storage solutions, which are now being financed on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. It is primarily aimed at customers from the USA and Germany and starts with an early bird discount of 40%.

Three models are aimed at private and home users: NASync DXP2800, NASync DXP4800 and DXP4800 Plus. These differ primarily in terms of size and bays, as well as connectivity. These are complemented by two further NAS solutions for power users and companies (NASync DXP6800 Pro and NASync DXP8800 Plus), while the UGREEN NASync DXP480T Plus is primarily aimed at creative and media professionals.

As a 2-bay NAS, the DXP2800 is the smallest variant, while the DXP4800 has four SATA bridges. Both are equipped with an Intel N100 chip and have 8 GB DDR5 memory. The DXP4800 Plus, on the other hand, relies on the more powerful Intel Pentium Gold 8505, as well as four SATA bays.

The other solutions use the Intel Core i5 1235u with 10 cores. With the exception of the entry-level solutions DXP2800 and DXP 4800, all NAS servers can be equipped with up to 64 GB of RAM. In addition, the NASync DXP6800 Pro, DXP8800 Plus and DXP480T Plus are equipped with two Thunderbolt 4 ports and can therefore control external hard disks, SSDs and disk arrays at speeds of up to 40 Gbps.

All UGREEN NASync models can also be expanded with two M.2 SSDs; only the DXP480T can accommodate up to four M.2 SSDs.

Fast connectivity

There are also differences in the network connection via RJ45 LAN. All models in the UGREEN NASync series have at least one 2.5 GBit LAN connection, while the DXP6800 Pro, DXP8800 Plus and DXP480T Plus even transfer data via a 10 GBit connection. However, only the DXP480T Plus is capable of Wi-Fi.

Otherwise, there are a number of additional connections in various standards. USB-C and two USB-A 2.0 ports are always included, while all six models also offer a 4K-capable HDMI port. With the exception of the DXP2800 and DXP4840T PLus, there is also an SD card reader.

Of course, security aspects are not neglected either. Protocols such as SSL/TLS are used during transmission, while robust SHA256 encryption protects the confidentiality of the information. The app’s integrated Security Manager offers real-time protection and also carries out regular virus scans.

Intuitive operation

UGREEN promises intuitive operation for all models. This is ensured by the operating system of the UGREEN NASync devices, for example, which allows images and videos to be streamed seamlessly to all devices and data to be managed and transferred from anywhere via smartphone, tablet, PC or notebook.

Smart AI functions also make it possible to recognize images, classify them and assign them to different categories accordingly. There is also an AI-supported search function for photos, which can be used to search through images based on prompts.

Prices and availability

The UGREEN NASync series is now being funded via Kickstarter. For the launch, there is a 40 percent eary-adopter discount until March 28 at 16:00 German time. The price starts with the DXP2800 at an RRP of 399.99 US dollars, or 239.00 USD for early birds.

The most expensive solution is the DXP8800 Plus for USD 1,499.99, or USD 899.00 for early birds. The NAS solutions will then be delivered from June 2024.
