VW ID.7 gets sporty GTX version

The VW ID.7 is to go on sale in a total of four new versions. This also includes the most powerful electric car from VW to date – the GTX version.

VW ID.7 now with more range

Last week, we reported that the ID.3 is to receive a GTX Version, following in the footsteps of the classic Golf GTI. Now VW has announced that the flagship in the form of the VW ID.7 will also be getting a GTX version. Strictly speaking, there are actually two GTX versions.

The Pro version also has an upgrade option. The previous top equipment of the VW ID.7 was the Pro version. Among other things, you got a 77 kWh battery, which enables a powerful range of between 607 and 621 km. With the new VW ID.7 Pro S, the manufacturer wants to increase the range even further.

Here you get an 86 kWh battery. In its official announcement, VW itself promises nothing less than the “range spectrum of models with a combustion engine”. A range of 690 km for the ID.7 Tourer Pro S estate model and a range of a whopping 710 km for the Pro S variant of the saloon certainly underline this goal.

GTX version shows off with performance

While more range is relevant for sensible e-car drivers, there are of course also many who want a sportier VW ID.7. VW has designed the GTX version for them. Both the Tourer and the saloon are to receive the sports version, making them the most powerful e-cars in the VW fleet. The dual motor should provide an output of 250 kW.

This in turn enables rapid acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. While the estate is said to reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h, VW has not provided any further information on this for the saloon. Both sports variants have the 86 kWh battery of the VW ID.7 Pro S.

In view of the higher performance, however, the range shrinks to 595 km for the saloon and 585 km for the Tourer. Of course, these are still very good figures, but they are significantly lower than the range of the other new version. VW specifies a maximum charging capacity of 200 kW with direct current. This should allow the electric runabout to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just under 30 minutes.

Prices and availability

You can order the VW ID.7 Pro S and the GTX from today. For the ID.7 Pro S, VW is calling for a base price of around 59,000 euros for the saloon and around 60,000 euros for the estate. The ID.7 GTX costs just under 63,200 euros for the saloon and around 64,000 euros for the estate.
