Yamaha R-N1000A and R-N800A: Network receivers with automatic calibration & OLED screen

Audiophile playback across multiple sources and streaming services, combined with an OLED display and automatic calibration: that’s the promise of the new Yamaha R-N1000A and R-N800A network receivers, which position themselves below the flagship R-N2000A released in 2022.

Yamaha R-N1000A and R-N800A in detail

Many technologies of the two network receivers Yamaha R-N1000A and R-N800A we already know from the top model of the series. First-class components, DACs from ESS and the in-house YPAO automatic calibration should ensure precise, detailed and clear playback – exactly as intended by the artists. Streaming and playback from additional sources is possible with the MusicCast system.

Yamaha remains true to its own long-standing hi-fi philosophy with the two network receivers and relies on selected components for audiophile sound. A high-quality ESS Sabre 9080Q DAC with a resolution of 384 kHz / 32 bits is installed.

The ToP-ART concept (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) promises a left-right symmetrical design that pays attention to the shortest possible signal paths. At the same time, the classy and sophisticated design is supposed to minimize vibrations and oscillations.

The R-N1000A also features a double-bottom chassis complete with metal plate, while the tuning of the acoustics is said to be convincing with high-quality, precisely tuned capacitors and resistors.

Modern Technology

MP3, WMA, MPEG4, AAC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, ALAC and DSD formats can be delivered with Yamaha R-N1000A and R-N800A. Connection is convenient via Bluetooth 4.2 and AirPlay2 from a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music HD, Deezer, Tidal or Qobuz can be easily set up on the network and integrated into the MusicCast platform. In addition, Yamaha has thought of a DAB+ module for digital radio reception in brilliant quality.

Record players can also be connected via a phono input to delight vinyl fans. A total of four analog RCA inputs, two optical and one coaxial digital input are available. The R-N800A has two coaxial connections; the R-N1000A is equipped with an HDMI connection in return.

A headphone jack on the front of both network receivers is also provided. In addition, an additional subwoofer can be connected via sub-out to expand the sound stage in the low-frequency range. As with the R-N2000A, HighPass for the main speakers and LowPass for the subwoofer can be precisely tuned, allowing for a powerful 2.1 system with YPAO.

Auto Tuning YPAO

“Especially in a modern living environment with open, high rooms and many glass surfaces, there is a lot to optimize. One way to improve audio enjoyment is directly on board with the new network receivers R-N1000A and R-N800A,” promises the manufacturer.

Here the own Einmessautomatik YPAO comes to bear. At the touch of a button, the enclosed microphone determines the most important acoustic properties of the room, including the positioning of the speakers.

YPAO then automatically analyzes the results and adjusts the frequency response of the connected sound transducers to the local conditions. Another helpful feature is the innovative YPAO R.S.C (Reflected Sound Control) technology, which counteracts disturbing initial reflections of the listening room. The automatic calibration operates at 192 kilohertz at 64 bits, thus also ensuring audiophile measurement.

Prices and availability

The two network receivers Yamaha R-N1000A and R-N800A are scheduled to make their way to retailers in July 2023. The Yamaha R-N800A has a recommended retail price of €1,099.00, while the R-N1000A will cross the counter for €1,599.00.
