ACEFAST GaN 65W USB C charger review: design and workmanship

  • High-quality design
  • impeccable build quality
  • compact

If you are looking for a compact charging solution, the ACEFAST GaN 65W USB C charger is definitely the right choice. Because with dimensions of 9.5 cm x 5 cm x 3.2 cm, this GaN charger is much handier than, for example, the UGREEN Nexode 200W (our review).

Thus, it is hardly bigger than a standard smartphone charger. The weight of 130 grams is also okay, while the manufacturer relies on a simple, all-black design with rounded edges here.

Practical: In addition to the charger, a high-quality USB-C cable with a length of 1.8 meters is included, which can handle speeds of up to 100 watts. A bit overkill at 65 watts from the power supply, but well.

There is also nothing to complain about in terms of build quality. It is high-quality and robust across the board. The ports are also cleanly manufactured, and there are no gaps.

The connections and charging power of the ACEFAST GaN 65W

  • three ports
  • maximum 65 watts charging power (combined)

Due to the compact size, the selection of ports is naturally manageable. A total of three ports are found on the front. USB-C Gen 3.1 (with 10 Gbps) starts at the top, USB-A 3.0 (5 Gbps) follows once below, while an HDMI port allows for 4K picture playback with 60 Hz.

As usual with GaN chargers, the full 65 watts are achieved in combination: the USB-C port reaches a maximum of 60 watts of charging power, while the USB-A port provides another 5 watts.

60 watts for USB-C, 5 watts for USB-A and once HDMI is provided by the charger.

Thus, not only smartphones and tablets can be charged quickly via USB-C, the GaN charger also copes with most notebooks without any problems. Only for power-hungry gaming notebooks the performance is not sufficient, but my HP Spectre was supplied flawlessly by the charger, while I can charge my headphones via USB-A at the same time.

Practical test of the ACEFAST GaN 65W USB C charger

  • does not get hot
  • practical HDMI port

The ACEFAST GaN 65W USB C charger can fully achieve the stated charging speeds while not getting excessively hot even when using both charging ports. The new GaN technology is also said to protect the device from overcurrent, overvoltage, overheating, short circuits and much more.

The HDMI port proves to be surprisingly practical, and the application areas for it are extensive. For example, the charger can replace the docking station of the Nintendo Switch: Simply charge the hybrid console via USB-C and connect the HDMI cable to the TV or monitor and the picture is displayed – without the clunky dock. Particularly practical on vacation, for example.

It is also possible to display images from a connected smartphone or tablet without any problems. For example, to navigate with the smartphone on a large display or to enjoy mobile games with a larger image. For a charger, this is already very practical and works flawlessly.

The change of the connected device also happens without any great delay. For example, if I disconnect the smartphone and use the Nintendo Switch, it takes around one to two seconds until the picture is displayed on the TV.

The HDMI port allows the Nintendo Switch to be used on the TV without the need for a docking station.

All in all, there is nothing to complain about in the practical test of the ACEFAST GaN 65W USB C charger. In fact, I wouldn’t have thought that the HDMI port would be such a useful addition. I really like this, especially when combined with the charger’s manageable size when traveling or on vacation.

ACEFAST GaN 65W USB C Charger Review: Conclusion

For the called price, the ACEFAST GaN 65W USB C charger really delivers impeccable results in the test. 60 watts of charging power in the USB-C port are sufficient for most applications, and it is also exemplary that PD 3.0 as well as QC 4.0+ and QC 3.0 are supported.

The HDMI port proves to be surprisingly practical, for example, to use the Nintendo Switch without a dock. That also works smoothly in practice. The compact size is also pleasant compared to other, faster GaN chargers. Thus, this model can be easily thrown into a backpack without taking up too much space.

Taking away the impeccable performance, there is also nothing to complain about the workmanship and safety mechanisms in my eyes. If 65 watts of (combined) charging power is enough for you, the ACEFAST GaN 65W USB C charger is definitely worth the money.
