HillMiles MileCity 1 test: quick set-up, convincing look

Like most e-bikes these days, the HillMiles MileCity 1 comes to you almost fully assembled. The frame is held in position by a wooden board so that nothing can break during transportation.

The rest of the assembly is then child’s play and can be completed quickly. In addition to the tires, the handlebars, pedals, saddle and luggage rack need to be fitted. Then you should check the air pressure of the tires once again before you venture out onto the road with the MileCity 1.

In terms of design, the e-bike takes up the look of many other city bikes and comes with a wide frame and low step-through, which makes it equally comfortable for men and women to use.

Visually, the grey electric bike cuts a fine figure, with the 26×1.95 inch profiled tires giving the e-bike a sporty look. However, the build quality of the MileCity 1, which weighs around 27 kg, is only okay.

The weld seams are a little sloppy and there are some unsightly paint chips on the frame right out of the box. However, given the price, this is not really a problem. In addition, the brakes squeak unpleasantly loudly before they’ve been worn in. However, this will subside over time once you have been riding for a while, so this is no longer a problem.

The features of the HillMiles MileCity 1

The features of the HillMiles MileCity 1 are really impressive. The manufacturer has equipped the e-bike with a 250 watt motor, which can deliver up to 600 watts at peak times and has a torque of 42 Nm. In conjunction with the torque sensor, this ensures impressive acceleration, which makes progress in the city extremely pleasant and also has no problems with hills and smaller mountains.

The e-bike accelerates to a maximum speed of 25 km/h, which ensures that it can be used on public roads. The MileCity 1 also features bright LED headlights and reflectors to ensure the necessary safety. The mechanical disc brakes have very good braking characteristics and bring the bike to a standstill quickly.

The MileCity 1 also has mudguards at the front and rear to prevent mud and water from splashing upwards. While the bike is approved for a maximum weight of 120 kg, you can also place up to 25 kg on the luggage rack at the rear and bring your shopping home safely, for example.

For manual riding, the city e-bike also has a 7-speed gearshift from Shimano, which can be adjusted on the right-hand side of the handlebars. On the left, on the other hand, there is a small LED display that provides information about the battery status and activated lights, for example. However, information on the distance covered or similar is unfortunately not displayed.

Removable 36V 13Ah battery with a range of up to 100 km

In the middle of the frame of the HillMiles MileCity 1 is the battery, which has a capacity of 36V 13Ah and can be easily removed for charging if required. It is of course protected against theft by a lock.

The range of the battery is fine. According to the manufacturer, up to 100 kilometers are possible in combination with pedal assistance, i.e. as soon as you pedal a little yourself. In purely electric riding mode, the e-bike has a maximum range of 50 kilometers, which is of course still sufficient for city traffic. The battery is fully charged in around five hours, so that you are ready for the next day.

Good riding comfort in the HillMiles MileCity 1

What I really like is the ride comfort of the HillMiles MileCity 1 in the test. The city e-bike owes this not only to its relatively low weight, but also to the pleasantly large and very comfortable saddle, which, in combination with the front suspension cable, ensures a high level of comfort and also irons out bumps or potholes very reliably.

The large, puncture-proof 26-inch tires also ensure a high level of comfort and a secure feeling, as they offer impressive traction even on wet surfaces.

The 168.5 cm long HillMiles MileCity 1 can also be easily adjusted to suit your body. The height of the handlebars can be adjusted between 96 cm and 98 cm, while the saddle can be adjusted to a height of between 77 cm and 97 cm. Overall, the city e-bike is suitable for people with a height of 1.55 meters to a maximum of 1.85 meters – in fact, taller riders will find it a little uncomfortable in terms of riding position.

However, if you fit within this height range, then the HillMiles MileCity 1 delivers a really good ride comfort for city traffic and is also suitable for somewhat bumpier country lanes. The e-bike also masters inclines of up to 12° perfectly.

HillMiles MileCity 1 test: Conclusion

With the HillMiles MileCity 1, you get a city e-bike that is convincing in terms of riding comfort at an absolutely unbeatable price. The bike combines coherent features with a powerful motor and a good range, which is absolutely sufficient for everyday rides in city traffic.

Thanks to 600 watts of peak power, the motor is also powerful enough to tackle climbs with ease, while safety is not neglected thanks to mechanical disc brakes and bright lights.

In terms of build quality, the MileCity 1’s low retail price is undoubtedly noticeable, but apart from a few paint chips and the initially noisy brakes, there is not much to complain about. If you are looking for a convincing e-bike for the city at an absolutely unbeatable price, you can buy the HillMiles MileCity 1 without hesitation.
