WYBOT C1 in the test: A solid mid-range pool vacuum cleaner?

The C1 from WYBOT is a cordless pool cleaning robot, which is also available from us at a price of currently around 400 dollars. Thanks to its technology, the WYBOT C1 is very well equipped for standard household pools. It is suitable for pools up to 150 square meters in size and cleans not only the floor but also the walls up to the waterline in its passages. It is powered by a triple motor with a suction power of up to 3,038 GPH. The WYBOT app can be used to set the various cleaning modes or store timer functions.

In today’s test, we want to find out how well the WYBOT C1 performs in practice.

Scope of delivery

  • Pool robot with power supply unit, floating elements and grab hook included
  • Includes operating instructions and quick start guide

In addition to the pool cleaning robot itself, the WYBOT C1 naturally also comes with the corresponding power supply unit. A set of floating elements and a grab hook are also included as accessories. The usual operating instructions and quick start guide are of course also included.

Appearance & workmanship

  • Thick roller brushes for cleaning and rollers for movement
  • Carrying handle for easy handling
  • Good workmanship, but top side could be improved

Visually, the WYBOT C1 has a lot to offer. At the front of the robot are two thick roller brushes that are used to clean the floor. Movement is via one roller on each side, which extends along the entire length of the WYBOT C1. Admittedly, the WYBOT C1 is no lightweight either, because at approx. 8 kg it is quite a bit to lug around. That’s why the carrying handle at the front, which also serves as a handle for the hook to pull it out, is a great help.

A look at the underside shows the large inlet for extracting all dirt particles. A few centimeters above it are six rubberized holders for wiping. The nameplate of the WYBOT C1 is stuck on the other side for identification purposes.

In terms of workmanship, it can be said that the WYBOT C1 is commensurate with the price. The roller brushes make a good impression and the rollers are also firmly mounted in a row. The wheels also have no play and run in one track. Only the top of the robot leaves room for improvement. The pressure point of the button is a little strange and the opening and closing mechanism is also too cumbersome.

Features

  • Powerful filter performance and all-wheel drive
  • Mapping with multiple sensors and gyroscope
  • Automatic parking when the battery is low or work is done

Thanks to its shape, the WYBOT C1 is suitable for comprehensive cleaning of the floor, including any elevations, and can be used for most types of pool. The C1 is also suitable for tiled floors. With an operating time of up to 2.5 hours, any standard household pool can be cleaned several times. If the battery is low or the pool has been completely cleaned, the robot automatically parks at the side of the pool and waits to be removed.

The WYBOT C1 uses double PVC brushes and all-wheel drive for cleaning. There is also an improved independent water pump motor under the hood, which achieves a maximum filter performance of up to 3,038 GPH. Combined with a two-stage filter system and large filter cartridges, any fine dust can also be extracted. To navigate seamlessly through the pool, the WYBOT C1 uses several sensors and a gyroscope to map the floor.

The supplied hook fits on any conventional pool pole and helps to pull the robot out of the water when the job is done. The floats, on the other hand, make it easier for the WYBOT C1 to climb walls. This would be particularly useful for mosaic or acrylic pools. However, in our opinion, the suction power on the walls of the C1 is sufficiently strong so that we did not even need them in the test.

App scope

  • Extensive functions in the WYBOT app
  • Configuration of pool dates and various cleaning modes possible
  • Cycle timer for cleaning over several days

After initial teething problems when registering or logging into the WYBOT app and an app update later, some configurations for the C1 can be made here. Yes, that’s right, you need your own account with WYBOT to use the app. Once on the home screen, we can view our new robot, which we have previously connected to our account via Bluetooth. It’s great that the WYBOT C1 supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to configure the settings.

To begin with, it is advisable to include some information about the pool, including the shape, inclination and material of the pool. There are five cleaning modes to choose from. In addition to a pure wall or floor cleaning, you can also perform both together or select the waterline as a third addition, which includes the “Standard full bath” mode. With ‘Eco floor’, on the other hand, only the floor is cleaned, but this is accompanied by a longer runtime, as the WYBOT C1 is more energy-efficient here. However, the default setting is “Wall then floor”.

In addition to a cycle timer, which enables automatic pool cleaning spread over several days, cleaning patterns can also be set in expert mode. The standard S cleaning method can be used for floor cleaning, but a cross or star pattern is also possible. Wall cleaning, on the other hand, is H- or N-oriented.

Practical test

  • Useful LED for status display
  • Effective results when cleaning walls
  • Smaller floor areas, however, remained uncleaned

The test environment

For the practical test, we used a pool with a height of approx. 120 cm and a total diameter of approx. 460 cm. After an initial charge of a good 3 hours, the WYBOT C1 goes into the cool water.

Commissioning

To start up, we activated the C1 by pressing a button on the side of the head and lowered it into the water until it slowly sank to the bottom. Once at the bottom, the pool cleaning robot starts the automatic calibration process, which can take around 20 seconds. The WYBOT C1 then follows its predefined route. In our tests, the S pattern for floor cleaning and the H pattern for wall cleaning proved to be the most effective. The current status is indicated by an LED on the front of the robot. The five different colors are very high-contrast and even when the C1 is submerged, the LED is still clearly visible from the edge of the pool.

Cleaning the floor

As far as the dirt yield on the floor is concerned, this is quite good in our pool, which had not been cleaned for a week. The WYBOT C1 moves along its lines in a constant rhythm, while the speed of movement is also good. The robot is by no means slow and fortunately not too fast either. As a result, all possible particles are not whirled around the WYBOT C1 during the cleaning process, but are carefully sucked in by the brushes.

After successfully cleaning the floor, however, it must be noted that the robot strangely ignored smaller areas and obviously did not clean them. This basically applies to all floor cleaning patterns. WYBOT should make improvements here in the form of a firmware update, as there is probably still some catching up to do in terms of consistent pattern recognition.

Cleaning the wall

However, the WYBOT C1 achieves a significantly better result when cleaning walls. The WYBOT C1 can move constantly from the floor up to the waterline over several cycles and continuously vacuum up dirt particles. The pool vacuum cleaner even travels up to the top edge of the pool until it protrudes a few centimeters out of the water. This has the advantage that any mosquitoes or other insects on the surface of the water are sucked up.

Both test patterns from the WYBOT app worked very well in the practical test, although cleaning was actually faster with the H-pattern. So if you want quick cleaning, you should prefer the H variant. However, the cleaning result is identical in both cases and, especially in relation to the purchase price of the WYBOT C1, the wall cleaning is convincing without any ifs and buts.

Cleaning

  • Filter basket can be pulled out by opening the lid
  • Lower flap makes cleaning more convenient

After cleaning, the filter basket of the WYBOT C1 must be emptied and completely rinsed out. To do this, the gray holder on the side with the WYBOT logo must be opened so that the housing cover folds upwards. Now you have the filter basket in front of you and can remove it upwards.

However, it is a little awkward that the filter basket is no longer opened from the top, but the flap has been fitted at the bottom. This is because some particles stick to the sides, especially on the underside, which can be somewhat unpleasant when cleaning. Nevertheless, you can now rinse out the filter basket completely with a garden hose and dispose of the remaining particles in the waste garbage can.

The filter basket is then closed again, turned once completely and inserted into the WYBOT C1 with the carrying handle facing upwards. After closing the housing cover until it clicks into place, the WYBOT C1 is ready for use again.

WYBOT C1 test: Conclusion

In our product test, the WYBOT C1 proved to be a reliable and efficient helper for pool cleaning. The cleaning robot impresses with its easy handling, solid construction and good cleaning performance. Particularly noteworthy are the thick and very powerful suction and brush mechanisms for thorough cleaning of the floor and walls.

As far as the battery life is concerned, this is quite generous for small and medium-sized pools, meaning that the WYBOT C1 can be sent on multiple cleaning trips on a single charge. For larger pools, however, the pool robot should be connected directly to the power socket after each charge.

Nevertheless, there are some minor criticisms of the WYBOT C1. For example, the opening and closing mechanism is a little awkward and the latches could also be more user-friendly. In addition, the WYBOT C1 strangely forgot to clean small areas of the floor during the test, so that some minimal dirt stains remained uncovered. This could hopefully be rectified with a firmware update.

All in all, the WYBOT C1 is a very solid mid-range pool cleaning robot that is suitable for both the floor and the wall up to the waterline. If you are looking for good value for money, the WYBOT C1 is a good choice!
