In addition to the Gigaset GS195, which was recently awarded a Silver Award in our test, the company also provided us with its little brother Gigaset GS190, which was presented in parallel. The Smartphone with the ?strong>Made in Germany? is offered/strong? – seal without contract already for ?strong>169 euro ? Whether beside the low price also the achievement can convince can experience you in the coming article.
Equipment, Design and Workmanship
In addition to the smartphone, the comparatively compact packaging contains a USB charger, a USB cable and a SIM card needle as well as a brief quick start guide. Headphones are missing, but should already be available in almost every household.
At first glance, the large display of the Gigaset GS190 is noticeable, which is practically borderless at the sides and thus doesn’t make the smartphone look clunky despite the high diagonal. The screen-to-body ratio of about 80 percent is good for the price range. All in all, the completely black device looks elegant and relatively thin. In addition to the USB-C port for charging and data exchange, there is also a classic 3.5 mm jack port .
The processing is impeccable and gives no point for criticism. The materials also make a high-quality impression and do not have to hide from much more expensive devices.
The Gigaset GS190 Display
The Gigaset GS190 features an almost borderless 6.1-inch display with HD+ resolution (1,560 x 720 pixels), which corresponds to a pixel density of 282 ppi. With 745 cd/m², the brightness is sufficiently high in everyday life, even under unfavourable lighting conditions, to be able to read the display at any time. Apart from the technical values that are good for a smartphone in this price range, the brilliant colours and good image sharpness of the IPS panel are already noticeable when the phone is switched on for the first time. Only the small semicircular Notch at the upper end of the display clouds the positive impression a little.
The screen is protected by a scratch-resistant and dust-repellent 2.5D glass , which has prevented scratches and other damage even after about four weeks of use without display protection film. Gorilla glass from Corning, which has been the market leader in display protection for years, was probably not used for cost reasons. In everyday life, however, this shortcoming can be overcome.
The Components of the Gigaset GS190
The other components of the Gigaset GS190 are also convincing for a low-budget smartphone. An MT6761 (Helio A22) processor with 4 x 2.00 GHz is installed, which in combination with the 2 GB RAM enables a fast system and the smooth use of standard apps such as Chrome, WhatsApp and Facebook.
The Gigaset GS190 only quickly reaches its limits in complex games due to the slow PowerVR GE6300 graphics chip, which is to be expected due to the price. A further point of criticism are the only 16 GB internal memory, which can be extended however economically by a microSD card by maximally 256 GB.
In the AnTuTu benchmark ranking, which is currently dominated by the ASUS ROG Phone 2 with almost 400,000 points, the Gigaset GS190 achieves around 73,602 points. Similarly expensive smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy A20 score over 93,000 points. The performance of the Gigaset GS190 is therefore also within the average range of the approximately equally expensive competition.

The Gigaset GS190, on the other hand, has a very large battery with 4,000 mAh, which can be charged in less than three hours using the USB-C Quickcharge function. Wireless charging via Qi standard is not supported. In our test, there were still power reserves at the end of the day during everyday use (telephoning, surfing the Internet, WhatsApp and playing music). Economical users should be able to manage with a battery charge of the Gigaset GS190 even for two days, which is a rarity for current smartphones.

Unfortunately the Gigaset GS190 offers no NFC. Google Pay and similar services cannot be used with the smartphone.
The Cameras of the Gigaset GS190
The Gigaset GS190’s main camera offers a resolution of 13 megapixels, Autofocus, and LED flash. There is also a secondary camera on the back of the smartphone with 0.3 megapixel resolution and a front camera with 8 megapixel resolution. Besides photos, the front camera can also be used for unlocking via Face-ID . Alternatively, in our test, the unlocking also worked via the fingerprint reader available on the back without any problems.
The quality of the shots is good in good lighting conditions, but it deteriorates considerably in artificial light or in the evening and night hours. This is mainly due to the autofocus, which sometimes takes a very long time to focus in low ambient brightness.
The photos taken can here also be downloaded as original , since they have been compressed for display in the browser.
Operating System and Apps
The operating system is Android 9 Pieces. Many smartphones of the competition in this price class are still delivered with much older versions of the mobile Google operating system. With the exception of the Google standard applications, there are no pre-installed apps on the Gigaset GS190. Nevertheless, the operating system occupies about six of the 16 GByte memory space.
Fulness
The Gigaset GS190 can convince users who don’t play demanding games with their smartphone and only take a few snapshots occasionally with its high-quality workmanship, the very good display for the price class and the long-lasting battery. Considering the low price of only 169 Euro for a “Made in Germany” smartphone in particular, the performance of the smartphone in everyday life can also be more than convincing.
