Huawei Pura 70 Series: Flagship Smartphones With Powerful Cameras

With a new name, the new Huawei Pura 70 series succeeds the P series, which was last seen with the P60 Pro and is one of the best camera smartphones around. However, it’s not just the name that is changing with the new edition, the devices also have a lot to offer in terms of technology.

Huawei Pura 70 series presented

With the new name Pura, Huawei wants to usher in a new era for the series. The series comprises a total of three models: the Huawei Pura 70, the Huawei Pura 70 Pro and the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra. They all focus on an appealing and unique design that follows a minimalist design philosophy.

The Exquisite Embossed Texture is used for the first time for the elegant back. The star-shaped pattern is embossed with a delicate checkered texture, while vegan leather is used for the material. This promises a pleasant feel, similar to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra (our test).

The Pura 70 and Pura 70 Pro come in the colors black and white, while the top model Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is offered in the colors sage green, mocha and black.

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra with impressive cameras

The focus is naturally on the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra as the top model, which relies on innovative and high-quality cameras. The manufacturer calls this the “Ultra Lighting Camera”, which has a retractable lens. It comes with a 1-inch sensor and an open physical aperture of f/1.6 and is equipped with the manufacturer’s XD Motion Engine.

The camera is capable of capturing moving objects at speeds of up to 300 km/h. the 1-inch sensor shift OIS is designed to noticeably improve image stabilization. Despite the large sensor, the smartphone is only 8.4 mm high and is therefore slightly thinner than the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

The Pura 70 Pro and Pura 70 Ultra both rely on a new Ultra Lighting macro telephoto camera and a large periscope telephoto aperture of f2.1, which should significantly improve the image quality in zoom shots. The macro camera focuses on objects from a distance of just 5 centimeters, even when shooting at telephoto. There is also a 35x macro zoom.

All three smartphones in the model series cover a wide zoom range from wide-angle to telephoto. The Huawei Pura 70 supports a 100x zoom range from 0.5x to 50x, while the Pro and Ultra even go up to 100x magnification.

The Huawei Pura 70 series also significantly improves portrait shots and intelligently recognizes light, shadows, blur and skin tones. “The bokeh of portrait shots has different layers that vividly highlight the subject while preserving fine details, such as fine hairlines and facial features,” promises the manufacturer.

Display and features

All three models in the Huawei Pura 70 series use the latest generation of the Huawei X-True display, which offers a pixel density of 466 ppi and a peak brightness of up to 2,500 nits. The ultra-high resolution display technology and AI HDR High Dynamic Display technology are designed to noticeably improve the picture. The refresh rate is adaptively adjusted between 1 Hz and 120 Hz thanks to LTPO.

Thanks to Super Durable Kunlun glass, the Pura 70 and Pura 70 Pro are said to be particularly robust. The manufacturer claims that the strength of the display glass has been improved by 100 percent. The Pura 70 Ultra, on the other hand, uses Crystal Armor Kunlun glass.

It consists of the Super Durable Kunlun glass and the scratch-resistant Crystal Armor technology, which uses an innovative amorphous diamond-carbon material and is said to be even harder and 300 percent more scratch-resistant than the glass of the Huawei Pura 70 Pro. The Pura 70 uses a flat display, while the Pro and Ultra have a slightly rounded screen at all four corners.

Battery in the Huawei Pura 70 series

Of course, there are also differences in the built-in batteries. The Huawei Pura 70 comes with a 4,900 mAh battery that can be charged wired with 66 watts and wirelessly with 50 watts. This allows the model to be just 7.95 mm thick.

The Huawei Pura 70 Pro, on the other hand, is 8.4 mm thick and comes with a 5,050 mAh battery that can even be charged with 100 watts wired. Thanks to the wireless 80W Huawei SuperCharge, the battery is charged by 50 percent in just 15 minutes. The manufacturer has also installed safety technology for the battery.

The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra has a battery capacity of 5,200 mAh with the same thickness as the Pro model. The charging speeds of 100 watts via cable and 80 watts wirelessly are the same.

The operating system is EMUI 14.2, which has been updated in terms of user-friendliness and design to emphasize the forward symbol design of the Pura 70 series.
